This position must achieve fundraising goals by asking for major gifts from individuals, foundations and businesses. This individual will be responsible for securing major gifts over $25,000 in support of fundraising priorities and will focus on current and deferred gifts.

Position Summary: 

The Director of Principal Gifts is responsible for major gift solicitations for the Craig Hospital Foundation. This position must achieve fundraising goals by asking for major gifts from individuals, foundations and businesses. This individual will be responsible for securing major gifts over $25,000 in support of fundraising priorities and will focus on current and deferred gifts.

Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Active and insurable Colorado State Driver's license.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7–10 years of increasing responsibility in fundraising or sales is required with a track record of successful presentations and outcomes. Knowledge and experience with a variety of current and deferred gift options. Must have experience and desire to seek gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations. 
  • Skills & Abilities: Excellent organization and customer service skills. The ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of donors and staff. Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians. The ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Proven analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. The ability to make formal presentations in front of large groups. Creative and able to be an "out of the box" thinker. Self-motivated, individually compelling, and must be energetic, passionate and enthusiastic about asking people to support Craig Hospital. Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to represent the Hospital's mission and interests to a diverse group of people. The ability to be flexible and easily adapt to requests for financial support to meet the needs of individual donor interests. High energy, personal initiative, with a friendly, outgoing and collaborative approach and a strong team-oriented style. Must be able to work under pressure and meet financial goals. Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain donor relationships with Craig Hospital. Experience tracking fundraising or sales results in a database; experience with Raiser's Edge a plus. Must be capable of traveling locally and nationally. The ability to communicate effectively with the Craig Hospital Board and Craig Hospital Foundation Board members. Ability to display a passion for the mission of Craig Hospital. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, organize and implement fundraising activities for assigned prospects with the goal of receiving major and planned gifts for the fundraising goals of the hospital.
  • Manage a portfolio of top prospects and design and implement strategies to successfully solicit and steward each one.
  • Participate in prospect management and evaluation of major gift prospects with other foundation staff.
  • Coordinate the involvement of appropriate hospital staff and board members in the planning of solicitation strategies and stewardship activities.
  • Prepare proposals and presentations for donor prospects, solicit gifts, and negotiate gift agreements.
  • Identify new potential major investors to continue to grow the list of prospects for Craig.
  • Participate in planning and strategic direction for the Foundation.
  • Passionately sell Craig Hospital through inspirational presentations to potential donors.
  • Delegate or perform the essential job duties and responsibilities of the department staff as needed.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of department goals and objectives. 
  • Consistently demonstrate knowledge of and application of quality indicators.

Salary Range: $47.13/ Hour — $67.18/ Hour
