Are you a strategic, forward-thinking finance leader who is passionate about building high-performing teams, strengthening financial operations, and driving organizational impact? Developmental Pathways (DP) is seeking a Director of Accounting & Billing to lead our finance operations, elevate our financial processes, and ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the organization.
 
In this critical leadership role, you will get to oversee accounting, billing, and accounts payable operations while serving as a key strategic partner to leadership across the organization. You will get to lead the development of financial processes, enhance internal controls, support key audits, and implement technology-forward solutions, including automation and AI, to improve workflows and reporting.

This role offers a 4-day, 40-hour work week, Monday-Thursday. DP operates a primarily hybrid work environment with in-person requirements at our Aurora, Colorado office. The frequency of on-site work varies by department and is subject to change based on operational needs.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is $123,000 – $150,000 annually, compensation commensurate on experience.

Started in 1964, Developmental Pathways (DP) is a nonprofit agency serving more than 15,000 individuals with disabilities and their families in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert counties. We are a designated Case Management Agency (CMA) for long-term care services and are one of Colorado’s Community Centered Boards (CCB), connecting people to federal, state, county, and private funding. We are also Colorado’s largest Early Intervention (EI) provider and help connect young children to essential resources, serving the City of Aurora in addition. Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the accounting, billing, and accounts payable teams, ensuring high levels of accuracy, timeliness, and performance
  • Oversee all monthly financial reporting and analysis, including revenue recognition and billing operations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including GAAP and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
  • Support strategic planning efforts within finance and across the organization
  • Partner with internal leaders to strengthen financial acumen and support data-driven decision-making
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with banks, vendors, insurance brokers, and key external partners
  • Serve as the primary liaison for insurance renewals, providing required financial documentation and insights
  • Oversee banking activities and monitor organizational cash flow
  • Interpret complex contract requirements and ensure financial compliance across applicable programs
  • Identify, recommend, and lead process automation and AI-driven improvements within financial operations
  • Safeguard organizational assets through strong internal controls and oversight
  • Provide proactive guidance on financial risks, liabilities, and emerging issues
  • Manage and develop a high-performing team through coaching, mentorship, and workload management
  • Lead coordination with external auditors and tax professionals, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all audits, filings, and reporting

Required

  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience managing teams or operations in an organization of 50+ staff
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, federal regulations, compliance requirements, and relevant sections of the CFR
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proven experience implementing, managing, or optimizing ERP systems
  • Strong technical aptitude with software, systems, and daily technology tools

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience in nonprofit organizations
  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience in organizations of at least 50 employee
