Director of Communications, Americas

About the Role

The Director of Communications for the Americas serves as the strategic communications partner to regional executive leadership. This role is responsible for leading internal and external communications across North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, ensuring consistent and effective storytelling that supports regional business objectives. The Director will work closely with regional co‑leads, business partners, and global communications colleagues to develop communications strategies, manage high‑impact initiatives such as acquisitions, create strong media presence, and drive strong engagement among employees, customers and stakeholders in the region.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to regional executive leadership, shaping communication strategies for major business initiatives and transformation efforts.
  • Develop and execute a communications plan for the Americas that aligns with Western Union’s global narrative and commercial priorities.

Executive & Internal Communications

  • Draft and refine executive messaging, announcements, presentations, and region‑wide communications.
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and engaging messaging to employees across diverse cultures and geographies.
  • Support leadership visibility through regional town halls, regional events, and internal regional campaigns.

M&A and Acquisition Communications

  • Lead internal and external communications strategy for regional acquisitions and related milestones.
  • Develop messaging, FAQs, press releases, and employee readiness materials to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Partner with legal, HR, product, and business teams to deliver coordinated communication plans.

Media Relations & External Positioning

  • Coordinate external media engagement for the Americas, including press releases, interviews, and local storytelling opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with regional media and act as a spokesperson when appropriate.
  • Tailor enterprise messaging to reflect regional relevance and market needs.

Cross‑Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with regional co‑leads, marketing, legal, HR, and global communications to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Support major projects, campaigns, and initiatives that impact the Americas region.

Role Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, regional communications, or related field.
  • Experience supporting senior leadership teams, preferably in a global or matrixed organization.
  • Strong understanding of communications needs across North and Latin America preferred.
  • History of expertise in internal communications, crisis communication, M&A messaging, and media relations.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing, editing, and strategic storytelling skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Work Shift

HYBRID – Western Union values in-person collaboration, problem solving, and ideation whenever possible. We believe this fosters common ways of working and supports how we execute initiatives for our customers. The expectation is to work from the office a minimum of three days a week.

The on-target earnings range is $165,000-$185,000 per year, which includes a base salary. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
