Description
The Senior Policy and Advocacy Coordinator manages policy and/or advocacy related research and writing activities from inception through completion and assists in the cultivation and maintenance of effective partnerships necessary to advance the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) agenda. The Senior Coordinator develops and implements workshops, seminars, conferences, trainings and meetings related to policy and advocacy functions. The Senior Coordinator mentors and helps to develop the skills and knowledge of other Policy and Advocacy Coordinators.

Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Researches and foresees potential policy issues and develops advocacy plans to address them.
- Serves as liaison between program, department, CHCO and community partners.
- Identifies opportunities for partnerships which enable department, division and/or organization to serve as a resource within the broader community.
- Conducts research on policy issues impacting CHCO and provides recommendations on how to achieve specific objectives; and designs advocacy strategies to accomplish objectives.
- Plans and leads community engagement activities driven by initiatives and strategies.
- Designs and delivers trainings and technical assistance to support strategies as identified by department, division and community partners.
- Independently develops policy and advocacy strategies aligned with policy priorities and oversees the implementation with coalitions and stakeholders.
- Communicates effectively with a variety of stakeholders including clinical and non- clinical leadership and internal and external partners, including the ability to translate complex policy issues into clear and accessible written materials.
- Performs lead duties for other Coordinators which include, but are not limited to, coaching, training, monitoring, assisting with goal setting, and managing the flow of day-to-day operations.
- Operates as an advocacy subject matter expert, whose expertise is relied on by peers, leadership, and community partners.
- Participates in local, state, regional and national efforts related to policy and advocacy events and committees.

Scope & Level
- Guidelines: Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.
- Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
- Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
- Communications: Contacts with the public or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
- Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.
Minimum Qualifications
- EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in political science, advocacy or other related field.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in communications.
- EXPERIENCE – Five years’ relevant experience.
- Preferred experience in public affairs and communications.
- EQUIVALENCY –Professional experience, beyond requirements, in a related field may substitute for a Bachelor degree requirement on a year for year basis.
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $71,040.18 to $106,560.27
