Position Summary
As part of the Donor Relations team within MSU Denver’s
University Advancement division, the Assistant Director of Donor Relations is a key position to support strategic engagement, communications, and reporting efforts. The ADDR serves a vital role in nurturing long-term, meaningful relationships that maximize continued private support for MSU Denver, directly impact student success and retention.
This position will be responsible for expanding our impact reporting to donors, engaging with campus partners and students to create meaningful communications to supporters, and expanding the impact of the Donor Relations team as a whole. The ADDR reports to the Director of Donor Relations
The ideal candidate will be a strong verbal and written communicator, systems-oriented, and be committed to the growth of our team and finding efficiencies to support it. This role with be a liaison to campus partners, donors, and community to elevate the story and impact of MSU Denver.
Participating in a variety of projects, the successful candidate must be exceedingly well-organized, solutions-oriented and flexible.
Duties/Responsibilities
50% Donor and Fund Communications
- Responsible for drafting and updating acknowledgement language that will be used by our Foundation Advancement Service Team to ensure that communication is relevant and impactful.
- Develop and execute electronic reporting process for annual scholarship funds to communicate with donors and Gift Officers utilizing the online Academic Works Stewardship Tool.
- In partnership with the Director of Donor Relations, create a system for regular impact reports for donors, partnering with Campus Partners and leadership.
- Support the tracking and welcoming of new Legacy Society Members, leading strategy for engagement with the Director of Donor Relations.
40% Donor Engagement and Events
- Lead efforts to connect donors with on-campus opportunities for donors to engage with students and connect to the MSU Denver mission.
- Plan, manage, and execute special donor events and gatherings with support of the Donor Relations Coordinator.
- Manage student engagement and ensure that the donors have access to student stories, while creating opportunities for networking for the student recipients
- Work with Gift Officers to identify cycles of donor communication and responding to one-time requests as needed.
- Support the Donor Relations Coordinator in the scholarship review process
5% Professional Development
- Continue professional growth, finding industry best-practices and efficiencies to bring back to their work.
5% Other Duties as Assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), in financial aid, development, stewardship, student affairs, or other related field such as a non-profit.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written, especially with stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Proficiency in prioritizing and managing deadlines while working on multiple projects.
- Mission-driven and solutions-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with a complex donor, student, or CRM database.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to appropriately manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated capacity to be highly organized.
- Previous communications background.

Work Hours M-F 8:00am-5:00pm
Note: This position is eligible for a hybrid (remote/in-person) work schedule as job responsibilities allow.
Salary for Announcement
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $ 55,000-$70,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
