Summary:
The Longmont (Colo.) Times-Call is seeking an experienced city government reporter to cover the Longmont City Council, area town governments, and community matters. This role requires a seasoned journalist who can quickly grasp complex government information and deliver clear, accurate news to the public, while building a strong online and community presence.
What you will do:

Cover the Longmont City Council and city government, area town governments, and all matters of community interest

Produce accurate, easy-to-understand news articles with the public's interest in mind

Develop a strong social media presence as the go-to source for Longmont council and government news
-
Cultivate fresh story ideas for the Times-Call and its sister newspapers

Utilize search-engine optimization techniques to enhance online content visibility

Work under deadline pressure to deliver timely news

Work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis, and be available for odd hours as needed

Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
What you will bring:

Minimum of three years of experience as a city government reporter
-
Mastery of AP style
-
Ability to cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community
-
Strong storytelling skills
-
Ability to quickly grasp government jargon and the importance of council decisions
-
Degree in journalism, communication, or equivalent experience
-
Relevant experience in news reporting, writing, and social media
-
Understanding of emerging and existing platforms (web, mobile, print)

Live in the Boulder county area, or to relocate to the area
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $19.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
