Summary
Description
Under general supervision, this position coordinates and supports the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department’s communications, marketing, and community engagement activities, including content development, branding support, public outreach, and promotion of programs, facilities, and events. The position assists with the implementation of established strategies, special events and media coordination, supports crisis communications, and serves as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders.

- Coordinates departmental communications, marketing, and community engagement activities, including promotion of services, programs, facilities, and events; graphic design; website and mobile application content management; social media content administration; and photo and video production and archival.
- Creates, reviews, and remediates digital content to meet digital accessibility standards.
- Supports public outreach efforts to educate the community on parks, recreation, and open space programs, facilities, services, and inclusive offerings.
- Supports implementation and consistent application of the Parker Parks, Recreation and Open Space brand in accordance with established departmental policies, strategies, and graphic standards.
- Assists with the planning, coordination, marketing, and on-site support of special events administered through the Department.
- Assists with departmental advertising and sponsorship initiatives as assigned.
- Monitors industry trends and evaluates the effectiveness of communications and marketing tools and processes; recommends and implements improvements as directed.
- Coordinates with commissions, committees, other agencies, the public, department directors, and staff to provide information, materials, and assistance as appropriate.
- Serves as a departmental media liaison in the Manager’s absence by providing information and support related to public information, citizen education, and community engagement; assists with crisis communications as directed; and responds to internal and external inquiries and complaints within established parameters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, public affairs, or related field supplemented by one (1) year of experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, or other field involving the preparation and distribution of public information and marketing materials.

- Skill in the use of design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
- Skill in the use of website development/content management software.
- Skill in the use of social media avenues.
- Ability to coordinate and design promotional materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively including public speaking, written communication, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment and react effectively in public and/or stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and high degree of flexibility in changing priorities.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.

Tools & Equipment
Requires use of general office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, and related software. Use of specialized tools or equipment may also be necessary, including but not limited to technical devices, mechanical tools, heavy equipment, machinery, public-safety-related items, or other industry-specific systems. If required by the position, the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle.
General and Sensory Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. Duties may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, both in person and over the phone, and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role. Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision.
Light Physical Demands
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The employee must be able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Environment
Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment but employees in this position may work in varied indoor and outdoor locations. The noise level is typically quiet but varies depending on activities or location. This position occasionally involves work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, wind, or precipitation.
