POSITION OVERVIEW
The Communications & Marketing Manager (CMM), as part of the Philanthropic Partnerships Team/Department, holistically supports the organization’s mission, with the goal of building community-wide awareness, belonging, and financial support for Invest in Kids’ programs.
The CMM will play a critical role in educating diverse audiences about IIK’s work and impact to-date, crafting appeal messaging, collaborating cross-functionally, communicating IIK’s values, prioritizing language justice, and leading the effort in creating annual materials critical to our communications and marketing demands. This position touches all aspects of communication and branding, including the use of social media, donor communications, event collateral, marketing materials for programs, and fundraising appeals. Success in this position requires oversight of multiple initiatives and deadlines simultaneously, distilling of complex information–making it relatable and easy to understand, coordinating cross-departmentally, and being resourceful, leaning into challenges, and self-motivated.
The Communications & Marketing Manager is strategic, effective, creative, and has a background working with mission-focused organizations. This role supports and acknowledges IIK is undergoing a systemic shift in our identity as it relates to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB). IIK actively embodies an antiracist organizational stance and seeks to lead and learn alongside others in support of a greater systemic shift within the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Fund Development & Donor Relations: 40%
• Partner with VP, Philanthropy to create a clear vision for a coordinated organizational communications and marketing plan.
• Collaborate with Philanthropic Partnership Manager to conceptualize, create, and edit outward facing documents and/or communications (including thank you letters/appeals) in support of IIK events, happenings, or other initiatives as needed.
• Provide impact portfolio collateral for donor/funder meetings and/or deliverables in service to donor stewardship.
• Provide data and reporting from social media, donor email communications, and newsletter dissemination quarterly for PPT review.
• Create and/or edit external-facing documents including brochures, annual report, monthly giving collective, legacy society, and IIK endowment material.
• Create a bi-monthly organizational newsletter with support from the Development Coordinator.
• Research and identify marketing strategies throughout the year that will position IIK well across multiple audiences.
• Provide promotional materials, communication collateral, and videos for annual Jane-A-Thon fundraising event; work with PPM and JAT committee on any deliverables of JAT marketing/communications needs.
• Provide promotional materials and communication collateral for annual Benefit Breakfast donor stewardship event.
• Provide promotional materials, communication collateral, and videos for annual Gala fundraising event (every five years); work with VP, Philanthropy and Gala committee on any deliverables of marketing/communications needs.
• Occasionally interfacing with external partners (as needed).
• Update IIK website (site-wide).
Programs & Community Partnerships: 30%
• Work in tandem with senior leadership to conceptualize, create, and edit outward facing documents in support of the IIK programs.
• Identify PR opportunities that are aligned with programs.
• Work to center equity and family voice across organizational communications.
• Meet with Program staff quarterly to review needed communication collateral, updates, or other related projects.
• Serve as a thought-partner with staff in creating programmatic updates and in centering equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging work organizationally.
Project Management 20%
• Project Manager for all communications and marketing initiatives at IIK, both internal and external by adopting a project team approach for delegating roles/responsibilities cross-functionally for fulfillment:
• Communication Plan: build out alongside VP, Philanthropy and ensure feasibility and implementation; maintain on a monthly basis.
• Marketing materials and collateral oversight across departments: ensuring accurate record-keeping and processing of materials at all times.
• Language Justice work—collaborating with identified staff to ensure quality assurance and improvement.
• Quality Assurance and Improvement of the brand standard established): including implementation, and management (every three years in accordance with strategic plan and guidance from VP, Philanthropy).
• Social media calendar and content creation: posting to social media weekly; content creation for multiple social media platforms, IIK website, blogs, giving campaigns, and photo editing.
• Annual Report: supporting the design, execution, and planning annually from July-September.

Content for Press Releases and Media
General Support 10%
• Event Support – attend and provide logistical support/photography at the annual Jane-A-Thon fundraiser, Benefits Breakfast, and IIK Gala (every five years) as a member of the PPT.
• Provide promotional/communication materials for other IIK events (as needed).
• Participate and actively engage in any IIK Equity initiatives as needed to ensure any communication/marketing activities are in accordance with IIK Values, brand standard, and voice.
• Serve as primary contact for contractors for graphic design, photography, video production, IIK Website, and others, as needed.
• Collaborate with the Finance/Ops team quarterly as a member of the PPT to thoughtfully share internal organizational updates on fundraising development.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience collaborating in a high-growth and mission-driven environment.
• Self-starter with a strong ability and desire to lean into emerging opportunities of growth and learning outcomes regarding communications and marketing initiatives.
• Desire to grow professionally in the field of communications and marketing within fundraising development a plus.
• Very strong writing, editing, and analytical skills–ability to follow and identify best practice, express new ideas and communicate with diverse audiences.
• Experience crafting mission-focused appeals and calls to action, annual reports, newsletters, and managing social media accounts a plus.
• Close attention to detail to ensure accuracy, credibility, and excellence in all initiatives.
• Strongly skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, Canva or other design platforms, Constant Contact and social media platforms
• Collaborative and team-oriented, as this position will contribute to organizational culture by working alongside all departments.
• This position requires two to three years minimum of work experience involving marketing and/or communications, preferably in a non-profit setting. Experience with fundraising development efforts is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
• Basic and/or emerging project management skills and use of PM tools preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; bilingual in other languages also a plus.
• Personal and/or professional interest in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) work in communications/language justice a plus.
