The Town of Timnath is looking for a Communications Specialist to be the voice behind our updates, announcements, and everything in between!
In this dynamic role, you’ll manage internal and external communications, keep our website and social media fresh and informative, build relationships with local media, and help shape how we connect with our residents. You'll work closely with the Town Manager and team up with departments across town to make sure our messaging is always on point.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and distribute regular internal communication materials including newsletters, email updates, and announcements to town staff.
- Coordinate and execute external communication through the town’s website, social media platforms, press releases, newsletters, and community outreach.
- Serve as liaison to local media outlets, drafting and distributing news releases, statements, and responding to media inquiries.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate annual communications plans aligned with strategic goals.
- Manage content creation and updates for the town’s digital platforms, ensuring information is accurate, timely, and accessible.
- Produce video and visual content for high-profile initiatives (e.g., State of the Town, ballot measures).
- Support Town departments with communication strategies for public-facing initiatives, events, and programs.
- Monitor public sentiment and engagement through media and social channels and provide insight to the Town Manager.
- Track and report on metrics across platforms to guide data-informed decision making.
- Plan and support communication for public meetings, town forums, and emergency notifications.
- Maintain brand consistency in all communication and marketing materials.
- Lead or support internal staff training on media communication, branding, and digital literacy.
- Collaborate with staff and leadership to align messaging with the town’s goals and values.
- Advise staff on public engagement strategy and message tone for sensitive issues.
- Collaborate with elected officials to maintain consistent messaging across Council-related initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools including social media management, website CMS (e.g., WordPress), email marketing platforms, and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Proven experience creating and executing communications strategies in a public sector environment.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to public service.
- Familiarity with Colorado municipal operations or small-town governance.
- Familiarity with Colorado Open Records Act and municipal election communication rules.
- Strong understanding of ADA (American Disabilities Act) web accessibility standards.
- Strong public speaking or on-camera presence for media or video work.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Must possess a valid state driver license.
- Must pass post offer background screening.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, or a similar role; experience in local government or public sector preferred.

- The noise level is usually moderate.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $76,768.00 – $82,909.00 per year
