Shape the Storytelling and Engagement of Colorado Cities and Towns

The Colorado Municipal League (CML) is seeking a strategic, creative, and collaborative leader to serve as our next Engagement and Communications Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how Colorado’s municipalities connect, learn, and advocate by leading communications, member engagement, and training programs for one of the state’s most respected local government organizations. About the Role

The Engagement and Communications Manager leads CML’s communications, member engagement, and training initiatives. As a member of the senior management team, Engagement and Communications Manager works across the organization to ensure clear, timely, and impactful messaging while strengthening relationships with municipal leaders across Colorado. This position reports to the Deputy Director and oversees a small, high-performing team.

What You Will Do

Lead Communications and Engagement Strategy

  • Develop and implement organization-wide communications strategies aligned with CML’s mission and advocacy priorities.

  • Oversee publications, digital platforms, and marketing efforts.

  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely messaging on key municipal issues.

Strengthen Member Engagement

  • Design and enhance programs and services that support Colorado’s municipal officials.

  • Increase engagement among new and existing members.

  • Use data and feedback to continuously improve participation and impact.

Oversee Training and Professional Development

  • Lead the development and delivery of training programs for municipal leaders.

  • Collaborate with advocacy staff to ensure relevant, high value content.

  • Support signature member education and recognition programs.

Build Partnerships and Expand Impact

  • Cultivate relationships with partner organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.

  • Support associate membership and sponsorship opportunities.

  • Represent CML at events, meetings, and conferences across the state.

Lead and Develop a Team

  • Supervise and support communications and research staff.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

  • Manage program budgets and resources effectively.

What You Bring

  • Experience in communications, public affairs, marketing, or a related field

  • Strong writing and messaging skills, with the ability to communicate to diverse audiences using traditional and digital platforms.

  • Strategic thinking paired with strong execution skills

  • Experience managing projects, programs, or teams.

  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across organizations.

  • Comfort using data and metrics to guide decisions.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience in local government, public policy, non-profit, or a membership-based organization

  • Familiarity with Colorado municipal issues

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $79,300 – $119,00. Starting salary will be commensurate with skills, qualifications, and opportunity to grow in the position. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and remote work options in accordance with organizational policy. Benefits include employer-sponsored health and dental insurance, flexible spending plans, retirement plans, term life insurance, optional disability insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, funeral leave, and other leave required by law.
