Description

The Special District Association of Colorado (SDA) is seeking a Governmental Affairs Officer to join our policy and advocacy team. Special districts are the most prevalent form of local government in Colorado, with over 3,600 special districts in Colorado and more than 2,700 SDA member districts encompassing a wide range of services, including fire, water, library, health service (hospital), ambulance, park & recreation districts, and metropolitan districts.

You will be part of a Policy Team that works diligently to ensure that Colorado’s special districts have a voice at the Colorado legislature.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

· A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.

· A master’s degree or law degree is desirable.

· Minimum of 5 years of experience working in lobbying, public policy, or local government in Colorado.

· Direct experience in local government is preferred but not required.

· Established relationships with the Colorado General Assembly are essential.

· Strong understanding of strategic advocacy planning.

· Working knowledge of the Colorado General Assembly and its processes.

· Comfortable networking with key stakeholder entities

· Testifying on legislation as needed.

· Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholder priorities.

· Strong communication skills, both in writing high-level reports and engaging with legislators on how legislation impacts their districts.

· Willingness to contribute to the team in the interim on various office priorities, including regional trainings and an annual conference.

Benefits

Salary range is $90,000 – $150,000 depending on experience
