Description

Risk Communications and Emerging Issues

  • Anticipate and plan reactive communications efforts for reputation-impacting issues at both local and enterprise levels.
  • Collaborate effectively with senior leaders in Risk, Legal, Operations, and other departments.
  • Develop media statements and talking points for teammates, patients, physicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in setting up a (enterprise) crisis management capability, leading crisis response and delivering crisis management training.
  • Experience in crisis/incident management, resilience, business continuity, or security.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and communication.

Media Relations and Media Monitoring

  • Manage day-to-day media relations and responding to issues requiring 24/7 attention.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key news media at local, state, and national levels.
  • Handle sensitive media requests and interviews.
  • Respond to information requests from the media and the public, determining appropriate, accurate responses and company contacts.
  • Manage the monitoring of daily news coverage related to issues/risk and coordinate responses as necessary.
  • Track and archive relevant coverage.

 

Strategic Counsel to Company Executives

  • Provide direct and proactive advice, consultation, and assistance to senior leaders handling issues.
  • Educate on public information matters, including researching, providing information, and developing messages.

Special Projects

  • Write, edit, review, and ensure appropriate distribution of communication/public relations materials with a company-wide impact, including news releases, articles, and online information services.
  • Oversee the production and publication of communication/public relations materials and related communication.

Manage and Mentor

  • Mentor and coach the team as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8+ years in corporate communications or agency, with experience in a leadership role.
  • Skills:
    • Extensive experience in issues management and stakeholder communications, with an emphasis on media relations and expert writing skills.
    • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, working with peers and senior management.
    • Understanding of communications strategy, content development, and channel delivery.
    • Ability to manage issues, projects, and campaigns with minimal supervision, with accountability for strategy, tactical execution, and outcomes.
    • Strong analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to delegate when appropriate; perform timely performance reviews and provide informal feedback to teammates to ensure professional development.
    • Ability to maintain confidence and professionalism when leading others through ambiguous and challenging situations.

Essential Behaviors, Skills, and Attitudes

  • Communication: Excellent writing, communications, and presentation skills required.
  • Experience: Extensive experience with issues management, corporate communications, and media relations.
  • Leadership: Proven track record partnering with C-level executives and other senior leaders on communications projects and business decision-making (references appreciated).
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to conceptualize and execute advanced, integrated reactive and proactive communications campaigns.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of healthcare issues highly desirable.

Salary/ Wage Range

$62,200.00 – $91,300.00 / year

 

 

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
