Job Summary
The Marketing Director leads the museum’s marketing, communications and brand strategy to advance its mission, expand audience reach, drive engagement, attendance, and revenue for both locations. As a senior member of the leadership team, the Marketing Director develops and executes integrated marketing strategies across digital, print, media, and community channels to promote exhibitions, programs, corporate and private events, fundraising initiatives and educational offerings.
The Marketing Director oversees brand positioning, public relations, advertising, audience development, as well as leadership of Behind the Wings content and is responsible for data-driven marketing efforts, ensuring consistent storytelling that reflects the museum’s values and cultural impact. This role collaborates closely with development, curatorial, education and operations teams, as well as external partners and community stakeholders, to strengthen visibility, deepen relationships and support long-term sustainability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Brand Management
· Lead the development and execution of the organization’s overall marketing and brand strategy supporting two physical locations and eight distinct business units; education, visitor services, curatorial, private events, leadership, Exploration of Flight, membership, development.
· Develop and implement cohesive marketing plans to promote Wings Over the Rockies mission and programs: including but not limited to, marketing to support Wings Over the Rockies Aerospace Education with four distinct pathways as well as exhibition campaigns, weekend showcases, events and more to help increase brand awareness and drive visitation and program participation.
· Oversee creative and Wings brand standards specific to all aspects of traditional, digital and print advertising.
· Develop partnerships with like-mind organizations to elevate the reach of Wings Over the Rockies in Denver and beyond
Organizational Planning & Cross-Functional Integration
· Collaborate with departments to develop Wings annual planning calendar to manage the organization’s annual initiatives by department that ultimately helps teams better manage projects, timelines and identifies integration opportunities.
· Partner with leadership and business units to identify strategic opportunities that support audience growth, mission impact, and revenue diversification.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
· Build, manage and coach a high-performing marketing team.
· Help to prioritize marketing projects and allocate resources accordingly – including collateral, website, email, social, digital and video production in support of annual and multi-year objectives to increase and diversify opportunities to gain awareness and engagement and help drive mission impact and grow revenue and admission.
Public Relations & Media Strategy
· Direct all public relations initiatives, including press releases and quarterly media advisories, and serve as the primary media point of contact.
· Lead media planning, advertising buys, and media placements, including tracking, monitoring, and reporting on advertising spend and performance metrics.
· Directly manage and serve as the primary liaison between the organization and its designers, as well as advertising, digital and PR agency partners, ensuring strong, two-way communication, promoting innovative strategies, managing budget, and evaluating performance.
· Manage and optimize the organization’s $10K monthly Google Ad Grant to effectively amplify Wings’ mission and programs.
Digital Strategy & Audience Engagement
· Lead the evaluation and strategic optimization of the museum’s website and digital platforms, ensuring best-practice user experience (UX), accessibility, and performance to increase traffic, engagement, and conversion in support of audience growth, programs, and fundraising.
· Oversee the development and execution of the annual social media strategy and content plan.
· Lead marketing research initiatives, analyzing audience demographics, trends, and performance data to identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
Financial Oversight & Budget Management
· Develop the annual marketing budget in partnership with the CFO and manage departmental and business unit marketing budgets to ensure responsible allocation and measurable return on investment.
Content Production & Media Properties
· Executive producer for Behind the Wings® – PBS TV series, and YouTube video series and podcast including budget development/management, the marketing and promotional aspects, supporting underwriting contracts and maintaining the business face of the production.
· Other duties that may be assigned by the organization as needed.
Required Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications)
· Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Arts Administration, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
· 5+ years of progressive marketing and communications experience, with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
· 2+ years managing graphic design resources
· Demonstrated success leading integrated marketing strategies that drive audience growth, engagement, attendance, and revenue in a mission-driven or non-profit environment.
· Strong experience overseeing digital marketing initiatives, including website strategy, UX optimization, SEO, analytics, email marketing, and social media.
· Proven ability to evaluate and guide website optimization to support best-practice user experience, accessibility, and increased traffic and engagement.
· Experience managing brand strategy, public relations, and institutional storytelling across multiple platforms.
· Data-informed decision-maker with experience using analytics, audience insights, and performance metrics to shape strategy and measure impact.
· Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership, boards, donors, and community stakeholders.
· Demonstrated leadership and people-management experience, including mentoring teams and managing external vendors and agencies.
· Experience with content and creative development and video production desired.
Preferred But Not Required Qualifications
· Advanced degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Arts Administration, or related field.
· Experience in the museums and/or aviation or space industries.

Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and questions, in accordance with applicable Colorado law.

ADA/Working Conditions
Wings Over the Rockies is an air and space museum and operates in a 70-year-old aircraft hangar which provides the excitement and heraldry of being around aerospace. Full time hours are expected to be 40 hours per week. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On occasion, hours in additional to normal work hours may be requested. Weekend and holiday hours will be required.
