Multimedia Specialist

Position Summary:
Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for engaging content, eye-catching visuals, and all things social media? South Suburban Parks & Recreation is seeking a Multimedia Specialist who is equal parts creative thinker, content creator, and digital strategist. In this role, you’ll take the lead on our social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor.com, LinkedIn, Yelp, and Google. In addition to social media management, you’ll capture and edit photos and video to showcase the people, places, and programs that make our community special. You’ll also assist the Communications Department in developing creative and quality content, including copy and graphics, for use in a variety of digital and print platforms

Essential Duties:

  • Creates content and determines strategy for all of the District’s social media sites, utilizing photos and videos to tell stories, promote services, and drive revenue. Maintains a monthly social media calendar.
  • Monitors all of the District's social media sites. Coordinates with appropriate departments to respond to inquiries and comments. Writes and edits posts and responses in a timely and grammatically correct manner.
  • Stays updated on latest social media trends.
  • Tracks analytics for social and ads and provides a monthly report on trends using social monitoring software.
  • Trains, advises, and assists staff who manage social media accounts across the District on best practices.
  • Utilizes tools including Adobe Creative Suite to design and edit a variety of marketing/promotional materials. Creates and/or refines content for print and digital marketing, including copy, photos, and videos for print materials, emails, website, and other platforms, as needed.
  • Plans and executes regular photo/video assignments to promote programs and events throughout the year. Manages photo and video requests from other departments. Assists with occasional professional video productions including script writing, editing, lighting, audio, voice-overs, and format design.
  • Promotes programs through paid advertising on various platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Google. Provides detailed reports on ad analytics.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of District events. Captures photographs and videos to document and promote important community celebrations or dedications.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and open ongoing communication and coordination with Communications Department staff and organizational staff.
  • Uses a computer to perform job-related tasks, input and maintain records, and/or conduct research as needed.
  • Effectively handles a variety of customer and vendor situations and is responsible for maintaining excellent working relationships. Responds promptly to customer inquiries, handles and resolves customer complaints in an appropriate manner.
  • Responds tactfully, respectfully, and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, social media, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in communications, multimedia production, social media management, public relations, or closely related field. Three years of experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in managing social media accounts for an organization preferred.
  • Professional experience using a DSLR camera preferred.
  • Any combination of experience, training, and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of effective social media management.
  • General knowledge of principles and applications of cameras; knowledge of photo/video equipment, including lenses, lighting, mics, file storage, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere.
  • General knowledge of effective business communications and appropriate use of AP-style writing.
  • Must have solid organizational skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail.
  • General knowledge in the use of content management systems, email marketing platforms, and/or using HTML and CSS.
  • Ability to build collaborative, cross-functional team relationships to establish communications strategies and ensure a consistent message for targeted internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria to set future marketing goals.
  • Excellent ability to effectively communicate orally, electronically, graphically, and in writing, with department personnel, vendor representatives, contractors, media representatives, elected and appointed officials, technical crews, broadcast professionals, business representatives, consultants, and the general public.
  • Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving sensitive, confidential, or controversial topics.
  • Ability to plan, organize and schedule work independently and maintain work effectiveness with frequent changes in workload and priority of assignments, and under pressure of deadlines.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.

Material and Equipment Used :

  • Regularly uses a phone, computer, copier, printer, fax, and other common office equipment.
  • This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.
  • Regularly uses a DSLR camera, lenses, and a work-issued cell phone to capture photos and videos.

Working Environment :

  • Primarily works in a comfortable office environment subject to interruptions and background noises.
  • This is an in-person job.

Physical Requirements :

  • Extended periods spent standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Occasional physical work, lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • May occasionally climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision.
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication. Must understand and be understood.

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties.
