Job Description
What is the mission?
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more— we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision.
What does this role look like?
The Protocol & Events Representative Staff is a senior individual contributor and go-to expert on the Lockheed Martin Space Protocol & Events team.
You'll independently lead the enterprise's most complex, high-visibility engagements — think flag-officer visits, national ceremonies, large-scale customer receptions, and multi-day executive programs. Senior leaders will look to you as a trusted advisor, and your work will directly shape how customers and government partners experience Lockheed Martin Space.
You'll also help build the function itself — contributing to the standards, governance, and playbooks that raise the bar for the whole team.
In this role you will have the following daily key responsibilities:
• Lead full lifecycle planning and on-site execution of major events — Tier 1 government/military visits, ceremonies of 500+, executive summits, international programs, launch events, receptions, and trade show/airshow activations.
• Own assigned programs end to end: scope, schedule, budget, stakeholder communication, and on-site operations.
• Brief and advise VP-level and above executives on event strategy, protocol requirements, and risk.
• Apply expert-level protocol knowledge — military and government honors, diplomatic protocol, VIP visit management — including precedence, seating, and introductions.
• Manage Legal, Ethics, and Hospitality approvals for visitor engagements, including DoD, government, and foreign national guests.
• Build and run event production frameworks: run-of-show documents, staffing matrices, contingency plans, and vendor coordination.
• Oversee logistics end to end — venues, catering, AV, transportation, lodging, security, signage — plus international logistics like visas and entry documentation.
• Manage event budgets, vendor contracts, POs, and invoice reconciliation.
• Produce executive-ready after-action reports with performance data and recommendations.
• Mentor IC-2 and IC-3 team members and represent Protocol & Events in cross-functional and One LM forums.
This position does not support teleworking; the preferred candidate will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility one of the Coolest places to work: Denver, Colorado , and be expected to work in the office.
Desired skills
To be effective, ideally, you should also have:
• Bachelors degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
• Certifications such as CGMP (Certified Government Meeting Professional), CMP(Certified Meeting Professional) or other Event Management credentials.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting, including high-security or classified facility events.
• Sound independent judgment under pressure in high-stakes, fast-moving environments.
• Familiarity with international protocol and events involving foreign delegations.
• Experience building governance frameworks, career architectures, or SOPs.
• Track record mentoring junior staff or informally leading event support teams.
• Strategic stakeholder management and influence without direct authority.
• Familiarity with government ethics rules on gifts, travel, and hospitality thresholds.
• Experience with trade shows, airshow activations, or industry conferences.
• Active TS security clearance.
