Job overview and responsibilities
Senior Staff Technical Writers create and maintain a suite of essential Flight Operations-related publications which must comply with FAA regulations, company guidelines, and established industry safety standards. Senior Staff Technical Writers individually and collectively contribute to safety of flight and operational reliability by producing accurate, timely, and standardized publications.
- Evaluate source data and proposed changes by:
- Reviewing, interpreting, and applying technical information from:
- Regulatory authorities (e.g., ADs, AMOCs)
- Aircraft manufacturers (e.g., FCOM, AFM)
- Air navigation service providers (e.g, AIPs, AIRACs)
- Company publications (e.g., Pilot Bulletins, Ops Alerts, eFAOM, FODBM)
- Pilot/customer feedback
- Working directly with subject matter experts to evaluate and identify required changes
- Identifying other impacted content within the publication and across other publications
- Coordinating cross-fleet changes
- Reviewing, interpreting, and applying technical information from:
- Create and revise assigned publications by:

Authoring content in various formats, primarily xml
- Conducting QA review, including self-proof, peer-proof, and internal stakeholder review to ensure all identified changes are accurately incorporated
- Ensuring content standards and conventions are applied
- Capturing compliance-related and other metadata to meet regulatory requirements
- Creating, assigning, submitting, and tracking work packages for internal approval and regulatory approval, as required
- Meeting established revision milestones and deadlines

- Publish assigned publications by:
- Preparing front matter, completing post-processing enhancements, and assembling a complete publish-ready document
- Coordinating printing and distribution of hard-copy products with print vendors, Tech Ops Engineering, and Tech Ops Project Control departments
- Distributing content via Mobile Device Management tools, Company intranet, and other locations as required
- Archiving change orders, approvals, and published manuals in accordance with company record and retention policy
- Revise and publish aircraft-integrated electronic checklists (ECLs), as assigned, by:
- Coding checklists using aircraft OEM software
- Validating the function of ECLs by utilizing flight training devices
- Coordinating the installation of aircraft software parts with Tech Ops Engineering and Tech Ops Project Control departments
- Interface with aeronautical charting vendors, as assigned, to:
- Submit tailored chart revision requests
- Review and approve proof copies of charts
- Coordinate production schedule for publication of final copy of charts
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Representing Flight Technical Information department at Flight Standards, cross-departmental, and regulatory review meetings
- Participating in industry events, conferences, and standards working groups
- Consulting with Flight Operations Technology on development and user acceptance testing of Electronic Flight Bag applications
- Programming new features, enhancements, and corrections to structured authoring software, including schema updates, XSL/CSS styling, XSLT, and X Path
- Distributing content for other departments via Mobile Device Management tools, Company intranet, and other locations as required (e.g., MEL, FRM)
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years combined experience in one or more of the following:
- Technical writing/editing
- Managing aviation documentation
- Other relevant aviation industry experience
- Critical attention to detail

- Schema/stylesheet development
- Content management systems
- Microsoft SharePoint
- Aircraft pilot
The base pay range for this role is $79,800.00 to $103,966.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
