POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant supports Central City Opera House Association's (CCOHA’s) mission by contributing to the organization’s accounting and human resources functions. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely completion of tasks within the Finance and Accounting Department. The Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Director of Finance for day-to-day supervision, collaborates closely with the Compliance Officer, and operates under the overall direction of the Managing Director of Internal Affairs. The position requires a professional demeanor, a customer-focused attitude, and strict confidentiality regarding all CCOHA personnel and business matters.
The Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, and administrative duties as assigned including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payment posting, payroll, general ledger activities and ensures that current documentation for all personnel is received, recorded and maintained. The person in this position will follow established internal controls and company policies and procedures and is expected to work regular office hours in the Wheat Ridge office.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Perform accounting functions pertaining to Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and CCOHA budget coding
- Data entry, coding, and approvals for bills and expenditures
- New vendor account set up
- Weekly bill payment processing
- Verify monthly bill posting and payments
- Data entry and coding for AR (pledges, payments received, deposits)
- Maintain employee, vendor and customer files
- Assist Sr. Director of Finance with monthly reconciliations and the preparation of monthly financial reports
- Ensures state and federally compliant employee and vendor documentation intake and maintains employee files; is the expert and super-user of our online HR portal and documentation tools (currently BambooHR)
- Report and Manage Workers Comp claims
- Process payroll for year-round administrative staff, touring artists and performers, contractors and seasonal Festival employees and vendors. Takes ownership for contract intake and building the Festival Payroll workbook.
- File and pay union reports, dues and benefits in compliance with CBA agreements
- File and Pay monthly Central City Seat Tax return
- File and Pay quarterly Payroll Tax Returns
- File and Pay quarterly Sales Tax Returns
- File and Pay annual Property Tax Reports
- Assist the Sr. Director of Finance with preparation of external annual audit by gathering necessary account information and documents
- Assist with preparation and completion of annual processes and reports including budgeting, payroll, SCFD qualification reporting, 1099s, and the Opera America Survey
- Accurately file digital and/or paper documents to maintain historical financial records
- Maintain daily internal and external email correspondence with customer service approach
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience
- Certification or degrees in Finance, Accounting, or Business preferred
- Knowledge of Non-Profit Accounting Practices
- Expertise with QuickBooks and QuickBooks payroll
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products (Outlook Mail and Calendar functions, Word, Excel, Teams, etc)
- Excellent reading comprehension with ability to read and understand contracts with complex compensation obligations and work rules
- Current knowledge of federal and state mandated employee record-keeping requirements
- Database experience
- Efficient and courteous customer service skills with colleagues and external constituents through phone, email, and in-person service
- Ability to type and perform computer data entry functions in a timely and accurate manner
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
- Attention to detail, analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
- Professional, positive attitude with the ability to work cooperatively with a broad range of individuals

- Evening and weekend work and driving to Central City and other event locations may be required

- Ability to lift 30 lbs
- Valid Driver’s License
