VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMS

The Vice President of Programs position is responsible for the strategic direction, design, implementation, support, and oversight of Denver and Pikes Peak mentoring programs, achievement of students served annual goals, and professional development and coaching of staff. The Vice President of Programs ensures child and volunteer safety. This position is responsible for the overall quality and capacity building of Denver and Pikes Peak direct services through an ongoing process of program and staff development, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation of service staff. This position is responsible for oversight of the implementation of programs, identifying schools, community-based partners, and champions to expand program services in the strategic areas as outlined in the strategic plan and in concert with the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic plan. This position works in partnership with the Director of Customer Experience and the Pikes Peak Office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Executive Leadership team:

  • Provide program expertise and collaboration.
  • Coordinate and plan strategies that promote agency growth and success.
  • Actively participate in the strategic planning and annual budget planning process.
  • Report and interpret program data to the CEO monthly and to the Board as requested. Consistently provide accurate and user-friendly program numbers served and progress reports.
  • Ownership and accountability for program and evaluation outcomes as detailed in the strategic plans

OVERSIGHT OF ALL PROGRAMS

As the Leader of BBBSC programming, this position is expected to:

  • Ensure child safety is practiced and the lens in which all things are implemented and or executed.
  • Ensure the agency complies with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) national standards, adhering to the Service Delivery Model (SDM), and other expectations as outlined in grants and other funding requirements.
  • Develop a deep working knowledge of the customer relationship management (CRM) system – Match Force and data management systems to hold program staff and the agency accountable.
  • Provide oversight of Match Force data management systems in a way that supports program success and maximum efficiency while adhering to privacy and other data standards.
  • Lead efforts to continually evaluate relevancy of programs to fulfill the community’s needs and provide oversight of evidence-based innovation.
  • Ensure operational control of quality assurance of programs by ensuring that each department is performing in line with quality standards as outlined both locally and by BBBSA.
  • Complete the annual assessment, required by BBBSA, of program practices to ensure compliance with National Standards of Practice.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of innovative programs by providing ideas, information, and support for all program-related funding and grant applications.
  • Agency lead on child safety and serve as point person to ensure compliance in child safety training to confirm quality programs of prevention, and to meet insurance requirements.
  • Actively participate in national or other professional committees as relevant to the success of the agency, the BBBS network, and the field of mentoring.
  • The VP of Programs will partner with Development and Marketing departments to:

o Create partnerships with external agencies that focus on building capacity and revenue growth.

o Ensure both program and funding goals are being met.

  • The VP of Programs will work in conjunction with the Director of Customer Experience to:

o Ensure that Pre-Match Trainings are supported by an array of Program Directors and Program Specialists.

o Ensure Child Safety is a top priority in processes and procedures as well as for continued staff education and engagement.

o Work in tandem to ensure Matches are handed off and Match intros are made in a timely manner.

o Work to ensure that the Enrollment and Marketing departments are kept abreast of programmatic needs in relation to recruiting and enrollment.

o Collaborate with the Customer Experience staff to ensure an on-going pool of appropriate and diverse volunteer candidates to support agency programs and goals.

  • Executive oversight of the planning, leading, and implementing programs in Denver and Pikes Peak offices that are designed to recruit volunteers and children and make and support long and strong mentoring relationships.
  • Manage program effectiveness, using evidence-based data from both internal program evaluation and external research, and evaluation efforts.
  • Present on behalf of the agency in public speaking engagements, as needed, for the purpose of building
  • Attend agency wide key events (4-6 per year) and approximately 15% of ongoing programmatic events where most occur in the evenings and weekends.
  • On-call for any child safety issues that arise.
  • Attendance at the 3-Day 2-night annual summer STARS National Conference (staying on-site including overnight) required.
  • Spend a minimal of 10% of your time in the Pikes Peak market, supporting staff, community engagement and strategic initiatives.

LEADERSHIP OF PROGRAM DIRECTORS

  • Represent agency as needed at community-based events and affiliations and through collaborations with other service providers.
  • Coach directors and build leadership capacity and succession plans across teams
  • Assume direct program service responsibilities on a temporary basis should the need arise.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Supervision of Program Directors. In collaboration with the People and Operations Specialist and/or HR consultant, provide support for any human resources issue.
  • Oversee the hiring and onboarding of all new program staff with support from the Program Leadership Team.
  • Prepare annual performance evaluations of program leadership staff. Participate in, approve, and review the performance evaluations of other program staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required, Advanced degree a plus.
  • 8-10 years of management experience, including five plus years of progressive experience in a highly collaborative non-profit (or school administrative) environment, preferably in positive youth development.

  • Experience with strategic planning including developing plans to materialize strategy, and aligning processes, resources-planning, and department goals within overall company strategy.
  • Understanding of issues/barriers that impact children and families from underserved populations.
  • Proficient in Customer Relations Management/Case Management Database environment (Salesforce/Match Force experience a plus).
  • Exceptional writing skills specific to reports for national office, grants/funders, and Board of Directors
  • Refined skills in quantitative analysis of program-related metrics and ability to interpret and communicate those metrics to internal and external audiences.
  • Experience with Program Evaluation – both designing and supporting evaluation initiatives.
  • Experience in project and/or volunteer management in a field related to social work, social services, or community relations preferred.
  • Must have willingness to and experience with facilitating training and presenting to groups of people.
  • Ability to work from Denver office a minimum of two days per week plus and travel consistently to and from sites, Colorado Springs satellite office, and other community meetings.
  • Strong creative and out-of-the-box thinking.

  • Access to reliable automobile and valid driver’s license; auto insurance required.

  • The salary range for this position is $100,000-$130,000 dependent on experience.
