Organization Description

The Center on Colfax has grown to become the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. The Center is a collaborative leader that positively impacts the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people in Denver and Colorado by creating inclusive programs and events, fostering connections, and leveraging the individual and collective strengths of the community. In addition, the Center produces Denver PrideFest/Parade/Pride 5K, the largest Pride celebration in the Rocky Mountain Region.

The Vice President (VP) of Programs is a vital senior leadership role responsible for the strategic vision, management, and overall success of all programs offered by The Center. This position leads a team of Directors, and ensures their respective teams deliver and develop programs and services to fulfill The Center‘s mission. This position reports to the CEO and in the absence of the CEO helps lead the organization in collaboration with the VP of Operations. The ideal candidate will infuse The Center’s programs with inclusive and intersectional leadership, guiding the organization toward fulfilling the goals of The Center’s strategic plan and expanding and enhancing the impact for program participants and community members. They will practice a personal commitment to the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility, in alignment with The Center’s IDEA-B Committee, and would approach this position with intersectional and community-focused lenses. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management and Leadership

  • Develops and implements the strategic direction for all programs, aligning them with The Center’s mission and goals.
  • Ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality, impactful programs, including Youth and Adult Services, Elder Services, Transgender Services, RANGE Consulting, and Community Volunteers.
  • Oversees program development, delivery, and evaluation to ensure effectiveness and impact.
  • Supervises, develops and retains a high-performance program team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Manages the performance review process for program staff, in collaboration with the HR Consultant.
  • Creates a culture for impact by shaping an environment where the team thrives and their unique perspectives and identities are valued.
  • Nurtures people and build great teams by prioritizing collective success, team development, setting expectations and assessing performances 
  • Establishes and implements work plans, drives and monitors progress against milestones and key decisions, and provides periodic reports.
  • Sets and develop specific metrics and improvement targets accordingly.
  • Identifies and implements strategies for program growth and improvement and continually monitors program effectiveness.
  • Prepares reports for Center Board meetings about status of programs and participation statistics. 
  • Develops new programming as identified to serve and engage the LGBTQ+ community.

External Relationships & Community Engagement

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, government agencies, and advocacy groups.
  • Acts as a liaison and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, representing The Center at various forums, events, and in media.
  • Identifies and cultivates new funding opportunities to support existing and new programs.
  • Manages relationships with partner organizations to expand The Center’s reach and impact.

Knowledge Management

  • Develops and implements systems for collecting, analyzing, and sharing program data and outcomes.
  • Utilizes data to inform program development, evaluation, and reporting to stakeholders and funders. 

Grants/Funding

  • Ensures effectiveness of program evaluation practices and data management; analyzes program data on a regular basis; compiles data and information for reporting for grants, fund development and internal purposes. 
  • Oversees and manages all grant reporting requirements related to programs and manages stakeholder communications 
  • In coordination with VP of Development and Communications, works to develop funding priorities, and maintains and cultivates relationships with new and existing funders. 

Community Relations

  • Works closely with community agencies to coordinate and facilitate services for clients.
  • Builds community relationships for collaboration, program promotion, referral sources and resources. 

Human Resources/Employee Relations

  • Works with The Center’s HR Consultant and VP of Operations to manage The Center’s employee relations, including maintaining personnel files, responding to employee concerns, developing and maintaining effective internal practices and procedures, addressing interpersonal conflicts, finding solutions and nurturing job satisfaction for Center employees. 
  • Works with HR Consultant to develop and implement an employee performance management system. 
  • Works with VP of Operations to coordinate payroll and benefits activities. 
  • Works with VP of Operations and HR Consultant on The Center’s compensation policy.
  • Manages employee handbook and operations manual, and coordinates onboarding of new employees with HR Consultant.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit or philanthropic organization, with a focus on program development and management.
  • Commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility. 
  • Awareness and understanding of the issues and needs affecting Denver’s LGBTQ+ community. 
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach senior-level directors and to manage and develop high-performance teams, and develop and implement program strategies.
  • Deep experience in program budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Track record of effectively leading a direct service organize with a complex array of programs with the ability to leverage strengths across program areas; excellent project management skills.
  • Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to point to specific examples of having led organizational transformation projects and program development.
  • Previous experience managing human resources function including personnel files, compensation, and recruiting.
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with HRIS platforms, Paylocity preferred
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, detail oriented
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively
  • interface with senior management, The Center’s board of directors, and staff
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker
  • Passion for The Center’s mission
  • Passing a criminal history background check

Working Conditions

  • Responsible for the safety and security of both the physical office and online platforms
  • Work in hybrid, physical and virtual environments as necessary
  • Frequent giving, receiving, and analyzing of information 
  • Work in a loud, fast paced and continually evolving professional environment 
  • Must be available to work Denver PrideFest on the fourth weekend every June
  • Will work in outside areas 
  • Expected to work extended hours as needed 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds, with reasonable accommodation
