Founded in 1972 by local artists, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) is a non-collecting institution that annually presents 20+ exhibitions at its flagship in downtown Boulder and partner locations. In 2024, BMoCA engaged over 170,000 people through its exhibitions and 500+ programs that foster the exploration of art, dialogue about current issues, and art-making among all ages. Celebrating its 53rd anniversary in 2025, BMoCA is at an exciting time in its history. Over the past decade, the museum has reached new heights thanks to record-breaking attendance numbers, dramatic programmatic growth, and the critical support of its community. In 2022, the museum launched a capital campaign to support a new flagship facility, tentatively scheduled to break ground in 2027.
Position Overview
BMoCA’s Associate Director of Development will play a critical role in the ongoing success of the museum’s fundraising efforts, both by cultivating relationships with individual donors for major gifts and leading fundraising event planning and execution. Initially this role will primarily be focused on raising funds for current operations needs, however, this person will also support the capital campaign efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Generate new prospects, cultivate donor relationships and directly solicit major gifts ($5,000-$15,000), partnering with Executive Director, Deputy Director and programming staff as needed.

Lead planning and team execution of 2 existing fundraising events to generate $150,000 in proceeds; develop concepts for future events.

Work with Executive Director to develop, support and attend Capital Campaign Committee meetings and events.

Collaborate with Development Manager on annual giving, membership and donor stewardship efforts.

Lead Corporate sponsor and giving efforts.

Develop donor communication and reports as needed.

Manage Development Manager.

Act as BMoCA’s ambassador/representative/liaison at Boulder/Denver community events

Education/Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree ideal, or equivalent in work experience.

4+ years of work experience in development, including track record of success soliciting major gifts with individuals, corporate giving and fundraising event management.

Experience in Boulder community highly preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Up to date technology skills; proficiency with Google Suite a plus

Ability to routinely walk up and down stairs.

Hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle in the event that duties require pick up and drop off of materials.

Hours & compensation
This role is a full-time, exempt position and typical working hours are 40 hours/week, 9am-5pm Monday through Friday on-site at the museum or traveling regionally to meet with donors or attend events. The position will require periodic work on weekends and evenings as required by donor events and cultivation activities.
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$72,000 based on experience and the compensation package includes health and dental benefits, paid vacation, access to a 401K plan, a RTD EcoPass, and a complimentary gym membership to One Boulder Fitness.
