Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field. The reporter must have strong reporting and writing skills, be well-versed in AP style, and be comfortable working in social media. Photo and video experience would be good but not necessary.

The reporter will also write a variety of features from human-focused profiles to trend pieces to business or political stories. You need to be able to plug into the community, connect with readers and work the beat you’re given.
Experience at a daily publication is preferred but candidates with experience at a weekly or college newspaper will also be considered.

The Daily Sentinel is located in Grand Junction, the largest city between Denver and Salt Lake City and a growing regional hub for higher education, shopping, business, health care and transportation.

The area is an outdoor recreation mecca that offers beautiful scenery, a high quality of life and less traffic and cheaper housing than many areas of the state. The area is also full of wineries and brew pubs with a very active live music and concert scene. Outdoor rec opportunities range from spectacular mountain biking and hiking, to fishing and a variety of other possibilities.
