Description
Aspen Science Center (ASC) is seeking an energetic and enterprising professional leader to advance the organization’s mission and vision for public understanding and engagement in science and engineering. Successful candidates will have a minimum 5 years of experience leading a talented team in developing and delivering innovative educational programs as well as a proven track record of successful non-profit management, donor cultivation, fundraising, grant writing, and community engagement. ASC is the primary provider of STEM education and enrichment in the greater Roaring Fork Valley of central Colorado, serving audiences of all ages in diverse communities from Aspen to Parachute. Work with the Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to advance the mission and vision of the Aspen Science Center, a small non-profit entity serving communities of the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys from Aspen to Parachute.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all operational, financial, and programmatic elements of the Aspen Science Center (ASC).
- Provide energetic and inspirational leadership to ensure ASC is successful and capable of achieving its goals.
- With the Board of Directors (BOD) develop annual operating budget and monitor implementation, adjusting throughout the year as needed. Experience with Cost-Center management a plus.
- Lead ASC efforts and activities in fundraising, cultivating and maintaining public and private investment in ASC activities, nurturing long-term donor relationships and community partnerships.
- Provide content and pedagogical leadership for program development, delivery, and evaluation.
- Oversee and directly participate in development and delivery of science and engineering programs for youth, adults, and families.
- Optimize earned revenues through innovative programming and sound business practices.
- Recruit and supervise a committed team of professionals dedicated to ASC’s mission and vision.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative agent for ASC, in concert with members of the BOD and staff as appropriate.
- Monitor trends in science education and the science center industry and economy, both locally and nationally, responding appropriately to advance ASC’s mission and vision and maintain relevancy and vibrancy in a unique and dynamic environment.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of non-profit management experience with a focus on advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and public engagement.
- Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating innovative STEM education programs.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, non-profit enterprise strategies, practices, and principles.
- Record of innovative and charismatic leadership and collaboration both within an organization, and across diverse populations and communities.
- Proven fundraising skills and ability to lead BOD, staff, and volunteers in ASC fundraising efforts.
- Experience in grant writing, funded project implementation, and reporting.
- Creative marketing and promotional instincts and skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
- Energetic attitude and enthusiasm for public engagement in STEM, team building, and community collaborations.
- Degree in science, engineering, education, and/or non-profit management. Advanced degree a plus.
Employment Terms
- Reports to: ASC Board of Directors
- Start-Date: September 1, 2025, or mid-August if available.
- Compensation: Salaried, $85,000 – $110,000 based on experience.
- Schedule: 40+ hours/week, flexible M-F 9:00AM – 5:00PM based on office and program needs. Often requires working evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Paid leave based on 1 day/month of full-time employment. Unpaid leave optional.
- Annual Ski Pass. Monthly allowance for personal healthcare plan.

Pay: $85,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
