The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Marketing & Digital Strategy will direct institutional marketing and brand development, as well as oversee implementation of campus-specific initiatives for CU Denver.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Marketing & Digital Strategy
What you will do:
Leadership and Management
- Act in a key leadership and advisory role, with decision-making authority as granted by the Vice Chancellor.
- Serve as the main operational lead for the department, and oversee the areas of strategic marketing, digital strategy, and creative articulation of campaigns, aimed at generating student enrollment.
- Participate with university system and institutional strategy planning and initiative coordination involving communication, marketing, enrollment, and other related areas on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.
- Plan, administer, and report on marketing budget.
- Routinely develop and deliver presentations to members of campus leadership, including the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Deans, and other administrators on marketing and digital strategy research and results.
- Manage various campus marketing suppliers and vendors.
- Lead overall marketing strategy and operations
- Partner with Senior Leadership and Management across the university’s seven schools and colleges, as well as the university’s numerous institutes and centers, on a variety of communications and marketing initiatives.
- Foster collaborative working relationships with university functional areas and academic units to develop marketing and communication strategies and materials and ensure that stakeholders’ plans align with overall institutional objectives.
- Design, implement, and facilitate annual marketing plan for the university, that also supports and translates the university objectives and strategies across communication and marketing channels.
- Advise on creative concept development, including working with agencies and internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide oversight for agency partnerships, RFP and external contract processes.
- Build strategic marketing plans and promotional message platforms for specific enrollment marketing programs, products, and services.
- Supervise the strategy, writing, design, and editing of specific marketing and communication products for campus distribution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to develop and implement a technology stack of integrated marketing and digital tools to engage and track audiences across different channels.
Web and Digital Strategy
- Lead initiatives in web and digital strategy for University Communications, in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology and other campus units.
- Improve web usability and overall user experience for CU Denver’s marketing web pages.
- Oversee the design, development, publishing, and maintenance of all CU Denver’s content and marketing web pages.
- Lead the web team to create wireframes, concept design mockups, and clickable prototypes to illustrate design approach, create high-functioning, highly creative web pages, gain stakeholder buy-in and, ultimately, drive audience engagement to continuously improve UX.
- Develop and implement strategies and best practices that increase website traffic and engagement, drive conversions, and demonstrate ROI.
- Identify risks and design, develop, and implement mitigation plans.
- Ensure web pages are built and maintained for SEO performance and are in keeping with accessibility, user, and other best practices.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Identify areas of market research and campus needs, and implement studies, including analyzing results.
- Provide analysis of customer research, current market conditions, and competitor information.
- Manage measurement and reporting of marketing programs/tactics to determine the success of each.
- Research, journey map, storyboard, and test user experience to enhance user satisfaction.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications, market research, computer science, or a related field
- 10 years of professional experience in marketing and communications
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
- 12 years of professional experience in marketing or a related field
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Experience in higher education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Broad knowledge of all facets of higher education marketing and communications, including marketing strategy and data/insights
- Broad knowledge of the latest new and digital best practices, search engine optimization, search engine marketing branding, and market research techniques and practices
- At least five years of management and supervision experience
- Familiarity and comfort in a highly collaborative work environment
- Ability to multi-task
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution
Conditions of Employment
- This position follows a hybrid work structure. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration. Onsite presence required a minimum of 3 days a week.
Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
- The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.
- Dealing with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors in a tactful, congenial, personal manner so as not to alienate or antagonize them.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $160,000-$175,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
