POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the VP of Government Affairs, and supported by the Chambers government affairs team, the director of C3 leads all operations for the Colorado Competitive Council in collaboration with steering committee members and business investors. This role oversees the council's strategic direction, financial management, stakeholder relationships, and advocacy initiatives while leveraging the broader Chamber infrastructure to advance Colorado's business interests in the policy arena.

ABOUT THE COLORADO COMPETITIVE COUNCIL (C3)

Established in 2005 as an affiliate of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado Competitive Council works to develop policy solutions that benefit Colorado businesses and maintain our state's competitive edge both locally and globally. Operating with statewide reach, our diverse coalition of investors and steering committee members join to amplify the business community's voice at the Capitol and on the ballot. Our advocacy positions are driven by more than 70 business investors who ensure that Colorado remains a dynamic and thriving environment for commerce and economic growth.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

 This high-visibility, forward-facing role requires a polished and professional representation for the Chamber and the Colorado Competitive Council

 Financial Responsibility – Ensure financial viability of the organization through the development of a sales plan and investor pipeline strategy. Develop and monitor the annual budget. Meet expense and revenue goals.

 Manage Investor Committee – In collaboration with the VP of Government Affairs, plan and manage committee meetings and agendas; the annual legislative agenda for C3; and outreach to industries and regions represented by C3.

 Membership Development – In partnership with our sales team, grow and nurture C3’s investor base. This position is responsible for growing and retaining investors and recruiting sponsors for C3 Base Camps and meetings/events.

 Manage Steering Committee—Devise, gain support for, and execute a strategic outreach plan to educate and engage the statewide steering committee in C3's advocacy efforts.

 Policy Analysis—Understand how legislation impacts C3 investors and develop summaries, recommended positions, and advocacy strategies to support C3’s position.

 Manage Lobbying Team – Provide guidance on the strategic direction of the lobbying team, which represents C3 at the state capitol.

 Represent the Chamber and Colorado Competitive Council in numerous speaking and media engagements of all sizes.

 Spokesperson – Represent investor positions through verbal and written testimony and letters.

 Manage Communications – Work in concert with the marketing and communications team leads dedicated to C3 to utilize media to benefit the organization and its role in public policy. This includes both traditional media and other potential web-based sources and e-communications tools. Communicate to investors, steering committee members, legislators, and public officials.

 Event Management – Work with the team to secure sponsorships and table sales for large-scale events, such as the Business Legislative Preview, Legislative Reception, and political forums.

 Stakeholder Outreach – Identify and develop a network of key stakeholder groups statewide whose interests align with investor priorities (e.g., industry-specific trade associations).

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  •  Experience managing diverse stakeholders, investors, coalitions, and media.
  • An understanding of Colorado’s political landscape.
  • Ability to present to large groups/conferences
  • Proven ability to develop and execute effective advocacy strategies.
  • Sales experience.
  • A willingness and ability to have a versatile and flexible work schedule.
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to gain expert knowledge of an issue quickly.
  • Ability to build a membership pipeline and maintain strong relationships with existing investors and steering committee members.
  • Strong independent work skills with a proven track record of taking initiative and developing relationships with key decision makers within an organization.
  • Good communication skills including comfort with frequent email communication, letter development and public comment.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have a proven track record of effectively managing multiple projects, priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to interact with high-level business and community leaders.

  WORKING CONDITIONS 

 Business office environment with professional work attire required in the office and for attendance of all programs, events and/or department meetings. Must be able to travel efficiently to off-site meeting locations throughout the State, some overnights are required. 

 This individual will need to work outside the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to help staff events. Like travel, off-hour occasions are typically planned and known in advance.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

 Physical requirements of the job include sitting at a desk (70% of the time); lifting up to 30 pounds may be required to perform the job duties.

 SALARY RANGE: $100,00 – $120,000
