Boulder Country Day School is entering an exciting new chapter in its history—and we’re looking for a visionary fundraising leader to help write it. With a new Head of School at the helm and a strong foundation of community support, this is a rare opportunity to build something extraordinary. As Director of Advancement, you’ll drive strategy, spark innovation, and lead a comprehensive fundraising program that advances its mission and impact. You’ll work with an exceptional team—including a skilled communications team, a dedicated database manager, and a part-time team member focused on administrative support, so you have what it takes to succeed. We’re seeking a hands-on, strategic leader who thrives on collaboration and sees possibilities where others do not. You’ll be a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, report directly to the Head of School, partner with the Board of Trustees, and connect deeply with the entire school community. This role isn’t about maintaining what’s been done before—it’s about imagining what’s next and making it happen so BCD can be its best.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work with the Head of the School, the Director of Finance, and the Board’s Development Committee to develop and oversee the annual fundraising goals.
  • Evaluate progress toward these goals, refine as needed, and communicate progress.
  • Develop and execute strategic fundraising plans with a strong focus on major individual gifts, while incorporating planned giving strategies to ensure sustainable revenue growth.
  • Develop and manage all activities related to school fundraising initiatives, including but not limited to the Annual Fund, and Gala, with a focus on both participation and dollars raised.
  • Develop and oversee donor gratitude and recognition programs, including acknowledgment letters, reports, and special events. Develop strategies to deepen alumni and grandparent engagement and increase donor participation rates.
  • Develop the strategy for administrators and trustees to engage, ask, and steward donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of current and potential donors.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Enrollment and Strategy Officer and the Director of Marketing, develop solicitation and communication materials that align with BCD’s brand identity and support a cohesive, strategic messaging framework.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team implementing BCD’s strategic plan and managing school business, budget, strategy, and operations.
  • Manage and grow a diverse portfolio of current and prospective donors through a targeted moves management plan.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested by the Head of School

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Annual salary from $125,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Generous Paid Time Off including 12 paid holidays, as well as 12 paid vacation days and 8 paid sick days, and breaks during Thanksgiving, winter and spring school breaks.
  • Approximately 92% employer paid medical/dental/vision insurance for employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in development or advancement, preferably in a K-12 environment.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing comprehensive fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, events, and major gifts.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, volunteers, trustees, donors, and other community members.
  • Flexibility to work after-hours and occasionally on weekends, especially around key donor events.
  • Strong events planning and execution skills.
  • Proven track record of personally cultivating and securing five- and six-figure gifts from individual donors.
  • Interest in or exposure to non-cash giving vehicles (e.g., stock gifts, donor-advised funds), with a desire to grow in this area.
  • Understands the power of donor communications and how storytelling supports donor engagement and retention.
  • Experience in retention and recognition programs.
  • Intermediate level experience with Raiser’s Edge and Google Suite.
  • Passion for education and the mission, vision, and core values of BCD.
  • Confidentiality, vision, energy, and a sense of humor.
  • Established connections with the greater Boulder community preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and own car required.
