Job Summary:

The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) has an opening for a Director of Marketing, Communications, & Strategic Partnerships. This role will be responsible for leading and directing all aspects of communication, marketing, and strategic partnerships for the SDM, including internal and external communications, media relations, public and private engagement, and increasing awareness of the school’s mission and vision. The position also oversees enrollment marketing for academic programs and leads all marketing efforts across the clinical and academic enterprise. The role works closely with associate deans, department chairs, faculty, and other school leadership to support the teaching, research, clinical, and service missions of the SDM, and represents the school in all communications and branding matters across campus and university committees.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication and Media Relations:
 

  • Manage the dean’s executive communication needs including briefings, speech and presentation development, and internal communiqués.
  • Coordinates, strategizes and trains SDM members for media interviews.
  • Serve as editor of and writer for the semiannual alumni magazine; write press releases, articles, speeches, brochures, content for social media, and other forms of electronic media. Creation of videos for use in patient communication and SDM website.
  • In collaboration with CU Anschutz Office of Communications, define the school’s strategic communication plan to increase awareness of and support for the school, its mission and programs, in a consistent and compelling format.
  • Serves as the SDM media liaison and spokesperson and fosters positive and proactive public and media coverage of the school and its programs, including responsibility for developing news releases, media advisories, legislative relations, public relations strategies, and crisis communications communication.
  • Responsible for technical updates, ADA compliance, website technical monitoring, and important web updates, working alongside the Office of Information Technology.
  • Provides oversight of the webmaster for the School of Dental Medicine’s website.
  • Monitor SDM unified branding, compliance, licensing, and provide key messaging, print collateral, web, social media, and patient communications oversight for clinical, research, and academic branding.
  • Manage, design, and monitor SDM website to engage potential students, faculty, and patients.
  • Ability to create and design effective and unique webpages to engage potential students, faculty and patients, and to ensure dissemination of accurate and up-to-date information to current faculty, students, and staff.
  • Work with external vendors on promotional items that are brand compliant.
     

Marketing & Advertising:
 

  • Customize marketing strategies for all SDM clinics (student, resident and faculty clinics), admissions (pre-doctoral and graduate programs), and research and academic departments.
  • Track Google Analytics, telephone traffic, and social media properties to gauge efficacy for both patient and student recruitment efforts.
  • Manage external publications, including establishing editorial and design plans for newsletters, magazines, print and electronic collateral.
  • Increase awareness of and engagement with the school’s identity among primary constituency groups, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, patients etc.
  • In collaboration with the dean, associate deans, sr. directors, program directors and directors, develop and execute coherent marketing strategies for promoting the SDM predoctoral and advanced dental education clinical and academic programs.
  • Write, produce, coordinate, videos and photoshoots for research, admissions, clinics and student projects, advancement, the strategic leadership team, Dean, safety videos and other SDM departments.
  • Manage the SDM image library, digital storage, and headshots of all SDM community members.
  • Responsible for SDM’s web content management including authoring, collaboration and administration. Management includes enabling and monitoring the output of multiple authors editing and participation.
     

Strategic Partnerships (Advancement) and Alumni Relations:
 

  • In collaboration with the office of advancement, support the school’s strategic development plan including messaging for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic support provided to the school and its program.
  • Ensure that effective and compelling case statements and development plans reflect the school’s philanthropic priorities and needs.
  • Manage school’s involvement in institutional alumni and annual programs including communication, event management, and annual giving solicitations.
  • Participate in school’s special events including communication and marketing plans, sponsorships opportunities and constituent relations.
  • Increase support and awareness of philanthropic opportunities among internal constituency groups including faculty, staff, students, etc.
     

Administration and Service
 

  • Serve as a point of contact for faculty, staff and students requiring access to marketing, communication and other external affairs resources.
  • Manage the school’s marketing and communication budgets.
  • In coordination with clinical operations, oversee clinical marketing plans, programs and budgets.
  • Represent the dean and school on institutional committees, taskforces and workgroups, particularly in the areas of marketing and communication.
  • Serve on school-level committees, taskforces and workgroups, particularly in the areas of advancement and communication.
  • Advise clinical operations unit to disseminate compliant, friendly, and accurate communications to faculty, volunteer faculty, part-time faculty, staff, students, residents, patients, and referring agencies.
  • Set, monitor and manage performance goals and projects of communication consultants.
  • Coordinate and supervise freelance contractors.
  • Serve as an SDM Director on internal communications, which includes training lead supporting SDM leadership efforts on employee engagement, well-being, communications fundamentals, and employee resource portals.
     

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, marketing, public health or related disciplines.

     

  • 8 years of extensive, broad and progressively responsible experience at the management level.
  • 3 years of experience in a healthcare organization or a higher education setting.
  • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • A master’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Extensive, broad and progressively responsible experience at the management level, including direct responsibility for marketing, communications, and/or social media.
  • Significant experience in a healthcare organization and a higher education setting.
  • Significant experience in social media and web content management systems.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 

  • Knowledge and experience in the health care field in an academic health care environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate a strategic communication vision to other school administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to edit and proofread copy and edit pieces drafted by others for content, style and accuracy.
  • Ability to be creative, supportive and thoughtful in problem-solving, considering the occasionally conflicting needs and perspectives of the faculty, staff and institution.
  • Ability to work effectively on teams, in both leadership and support roles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional and administrative personnel at all levels, including outside organizations and the public.
  • Understanding of, and strong commitment to, the mission, values, history, traditions of the school and the university, and the ability to articulate the goals and needs of the school.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to detail, timelines, and the university-wide context of decisions.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate financial and statistical information to develop key messages and aid in targeting policy makers.
  • Ability to understand and work within a complex institution with extensive government, regulatory and compliance responsibilities, as well as formal reporting and coordinating lines of authority.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including knowledge of technical terminology unique to science, medical, and healthcare environments.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $100,221 – $127,481 annually.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
