The Executive Director (“ED”) is the chief executive officer of DAC and is responsible for the overall strategic, artistic, financial, and operational leadership of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will champion the arts, foster strong community relationships, ensure financial sustainability, and uphold the mission and values of the center. The ED must be attentive to details and committed to seeing the DAC succeed.

Description

Summary of Position: The DAC is a 501(c)(3) arts organization operating in the regional hub of Southwest Colorado since 1966. The DAC includes a year-round theater, with a 175-seat auditorium, a professional gallery, arts and performances classes, and a robust youth theater and arts program.

The Executive Director (“ED”) is the chief executive officer of DAC and is responsible for the overall strategic, artistic, financial, and operational leadership of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will champion the arts, foster strong community relationships, ensure financial sustainability, and uphold the mission and values of the center. The ED must be attentive to details and committed to seeing the DAC succeed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising and Sponsorships: Supervise the Director of Development to design and implement an effective fundraising plan. Enable and support efforts and events with prospective donors and event sponsors to sustain and strengthen those relationships.
  • Resource Development & Grants: Guide research, write and submit proposals to attain grants consistent with DAC mission and vision.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage the DAC budget. Control and account for all funds and resources. Ensure compliance with DAC’s fiscal policies, annual financial reviews, IRS-990 filing and all reporting to Colorado Secretary of State.
  • External Affairs: Plan and deliver effective public relations, outreach and marketing. Maintain a high profile and collaborate with community groups, public agencies, committees and partner served by DAC.
  • Staff Operations: Hire, train, manage, develop and evaluate staff in compliance with state, federal and local employment laws. Instill a culture of
    teamwork and creativity.
  • Programming: Plan, deliver, and evaluate programs that contribute to DAC’s mission and vision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education in relevant field; e.g., the arts, non-profit management, leadership, accounting. Additional preference given to candidates with graduate degrees.
  • Multiple years of progressively responsible professional experience, including supervision, or in a related non-profit, educational or governmental agency.
  • Experience in fundraising, financial management grant writing, public relations and/or marketing.
  • Proficiency with technology and office applications such as Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to professionally interact with staff, DAC members, local professional organizations and citizens.
  • An attitude of sensitivity and inclusion for artists, actors/actresses, performers, theater professionals, authors, poets and other creative individuals upon which the DAC depends.

Benefits

$60,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience. Annual paid time and federal holidays off. Flexible work environment. Dental plan and
Roth 401K (no match). The Executive Director is a Full-Time/Exempt Employee.
