Through innovative academic, research, and outreach programs, CSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences is ensuring that people don’t just survive, but thrive. The College offers evidence- and science-based programs where students learn to directly improve the health, education, and well-being of people, their environments, and communities in which they live. The College communications team leads communication and marketing for the College’s eight academic units: the Departments of Construction Management, Design and Merchandising, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Health and Exercise Science, Human Development and Family Studies, and Occupational Therapy, and the Schools of Education and Social Work. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is more than 5,000 students. Several of the College’s academic programs are nationally recognized or ranked.
Position Summary
A vital member of the College of Health and Human Sciences communications and marketing team, the Production Manager is a skilled communicator and project manager with a passion for omnichannel communications and collaborative storytelling. The Production Manager is responsible for guiding the team’s activities in alignment with college strategic priorities and requests from college teams and faculty and staff from eight academic units. This role will oversee the team’s project and task tracking system, conduct project intake and assignment, manage project schedules and communication about project progress, and communicate with key collaborators to ensure on-time, on-brand delivery. The Production Manager will be responsible for event communications, including management of the college event calendar, invitation content creation, and other external-facing content. The successful candidate will have excellent project management, collaboration, writing, and editing skills. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, English, journalism, or other field related to any of the units in the College of Health and Human Sciences at CSU.
- Minimum of two years professional experience.
- Demonstrated project management experience with exceptional organizational and analytical skills, culminating in on-time delivery, meeting or exceeding scope expectations.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Experience in the communications field developing and implementing strategic communication efforts, including writing and editing in digital and traditional media.
- Experience in higher education.
- Strong written communication skills with some demonstrated science-writing experience.
- Strong editing skills and working experience and understanding of AP writing style and brand standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or with different teams to brainstorm, create, and implement multiple creative projects simultaneously.
- Working experience with websites and content management systems such as WordPress.
- Demonstrated experience in client relations, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Essential Duties
Job Duty Category Strategic Communications Project Coordination Duty/Responsibility
- Serve as member of the College of Health and Human Sciences communications team responsible for college and academic unit communications.
- Act as primary point of contact for academic unit faculty and staff relating to communications projects.
- Act as primary project manager, delegating projects to communications team members with the skills and capacity to execute tasks.
- Manage project schedules and expectations with requesters and team members with a focus on customer service.
- Attend key college and unit meetings and events and collaborate closely and effectively with communications team to understand and quickly respond to priorities and produce relevant communications materials.
- Support consistent written and visual messaging from all departments, schools, and centers.
- Advance CSU’s Land-Grant mission and the college’s commitment to access and success through materials that share the authentic experiences of constituents.
Percentage Of Time 50 Job Duty Category Content Creation and Distribution Duty/Responsibility
- Collaborate with other college communicators and academic unit faculty, staff, and students to create and distribute compelling multimedia stories that highlight the work of students, alumni/donors, faculty and staff, and support the strategic priorities of the college and its units.
- Research and develop news stories and feature articles for inclusion in the College’s publications including the Dimensions and unit email newsletters and SOURCE news page.
- Develop college communication messaging and materials appropriate for target audiences including alumni, prospective and current students, and donors.
Percentage Of Time 40 Job Duty Category Audience Engagement and Analytics Duty/Responsibility
- Evaluate CHHS communications, branding, and marketing efforts to advance the College in fulfilling its mission and goals.
- Measure effectiveness of communications including email clicks, SOURCE and web analytics, and social media engagement.
- Follow industry best practices and CSU trends to leverage trends and opportunities to engage with primary audiences via appropriate college platforms.
