Founded in 1972 by local artists, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) is a non-collecting institution that annually presents 20+ exhibitions at its flagship in downtown Boulder and partner locations. In 2024, BMoCA engaged over 250,000 people through its exhibitions and 400+ programs that foster the exploration of art, dialogue about current issues, and art-making among all ages. Celebrating its 53rd anniversary in 2025, BMoCA is at an exciting time in its history. Over the past decade, the museum has reached new heights thanks to record-breaking attendance numbers, dramatic programmatic growth, and the critical support of its community. In 2022, the museum launched a capital campaign to support a new flagship facility, tentatively scheduled to break ground in 2027.
Position Overview
The Curatorial Services Manager leads the effort to market, sell and manage art services that BMoCA offers corporate, government and non-profit partners. These pay-for-service projects generate income that helps underwrite ongoing exhibition and education programming the museum presents throughout the Denver metro area. Primarily a business development and client service role, the Curatorial Services Manager generates and cultivates leads and relationships with potential partners, owns the selling process and tools to secure new projects, and then works with the Curatorial Services team to meet partners’ curation and artwork needs on time and within budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Secure contracts for new projects to generate revenue and net income consistent with goals set by Executive and Deputy Directors.

Research and generate new prospects for curatorial services projects.

Secure meetings with new prospects.

Develop and give capability presentations.

Generate proposals for curatorial services prospects, including working with Curatorial Services team to develop appropriate pricing.

Build and nurture existing partner relationships to cultivate future projects.

Project manage curatorial services projects, ensuring key milestones and project timelines are developed and then met on time and within budget.

Lead client management and communication during Curatorial Services projects.

Work with BMoCA’s Accounting Department to ensure partners are billed for work in a timely way consistent with contracts, and artists are paid consistent with contracts.

Develop forecasts and expense budgets for Curatorial Services department.
Education/Experience:
-
3-5 years of business development and/or client relationship experience.

Industry experience in commercial and/or mixed use development, construction or design; past experience interpreting architectural drawings/renderings ideal

Project management experience with evidence of work leading key milestone and timeline development.

Evidence of involvement and enthusiasm with art and artistic expression

Bachelor’s degree and/or certification programs consistent with business development and project management requirements of the position; some education in architecture, curatorial studies, or art history ideal.

Hours & compensation
This role is a full-time, exempt position that works on-site at the museum, and throughout the Denver metro area as required for business development and client management meetings. Typical working hours are 40 hours/week, 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. The position may require periodic work on weekends and evenings as required by business development needs and/or relevant museum events.
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$75,000 based on experience. Compensation package includes health and dental benefits, paid vacation, access to a 401K plan, a RTD EcoPass, and a complimentary gym membership to One Boulder Fitness.
