As a member of the University Communications department, within the Creative Content team, the Creative Content Writer produces content that supports the university’s strategic goals and mission, and enhances the university’s brand, reputation, and identity as a leading academic and research institution. The ideal candidate is a multimedia storyteller who is passionate about sharing authentic voices in a variety of mediums, including print, digital, and social formats. They will demonstrate a commitment to equity and uphold university values.

In this role, the Creative Content Writer will be responsible for writing content to produce articles, marketing materials, eComms, websites, and other products. They will be a dedicated storyteller that has experience connecting with different audiences in a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate will excel at managing multiple projects and telling stories that matter. They will join a team of creative thinkers, including graphic design, video, editing, internal comms, and more, who thrive on collaboration and finding the best strategy for sharing information with our community, enhancing the university’s brand, and supporting our learners.

The Creative Content Writer will be an organized, collaborative individual who can thrive in a deadline-driven environment and have strong project management skills. They should possess excellent communications skills, including interviewing, and a proven ability to distill complex topics in creative, accessible ways.

Creative Content Writer

What you will do:

  • Perform interviews, gather information, write stories, and produce multimedia, content for the university homepage, newsroom, and Creative Content products. Secure stakeholder approval.

  • Produce copy and multimedia content to support University Communications projects, marketing campaigns, website updates, and communications plans (for internal and external audiences).

  • Take photographs and video and coordinate shoots in collaboration with the Creative Content team to support University Communications projects.

  • Build Creative Content eComms and web products, including the faculty/staff newsletter, and articles in WordPress.

  • Serve as a support to the Assistant Director of Internal Communications for eComms, including emergency communications.

  • Provide support as a traffic manager for Creative Content projects, including maintaining content calendars and production schedules.

  • Copy edit, line edit, fact-check, and proofread Creative Content materials.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing, or a related field.

  • One year of experience in producing content or writing articles.

  • Proficiency using content management systems and e-newsletter tools.

  • Knowledge of digital and print publishing.

  • Proven ability to write content for different audiences, formats, and contexts.

  • Demonstrated understanding of publishing formats, including social media platforms, web, and print materials.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience developing story or creative concepts from the idea stage to publication.

  • Experience using fact-checking methods.

  • Experience in Microsoft Word, WordPress, Adobe Creative suite, Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, social media platforms, and other design and creative programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in AP style.

  • Excellent writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Keen understanding of creative content trends and best practices.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiples projects and deadlines, and skilled at handling multiple priorities in a shifting landscape.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and works well with minimal direction.

  • Customer-service driven.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional team.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, a minimum of 3 days per week on campus will be required. Working from the office is required when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $56,845 – $62,829.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
