Summary

The Graphics and Multimedia Designer is a member of Toastmasters International’s Graphic Design team. The Graphic Design department develops creative, innovative, effective, and engaging materials and interactive content that reinforce the Toastmasters brand, enhances our members’ journey through the education program, and facilitates a positive member experience. We are a support team for all other departments at World Headquarters providing creative services, such as video, graphic design, photography, email development, web design, and production design.

Reporting to the Design Team Manager, the Graphics and Multimedia Designer is responsible for crafting digital assets and collaborating on strategy and content creation for the Toastmaster magazine’s web presence to increase visibility, reach, and brand awareness in alignment with the organization’s broader marketing needs. You’ll make frequent use of our Content Management System (CMS) and adjacent tools. Candidates for this role should demonstrate visual design competency—a grasp of typography, layout, color, and motion, and be comfortable with copy and photo editing. The Graphics and Multimedia Designer will work with editors, producers, designers to create original designs for both our monthly PDF and digital magazine editions, and various marketing campaigns.

The Responsibilities of This Position Include

  • Perform multimedia storytelling, flow copy, edit photos, and occasionally create motion graphics.
  • Collaborate with magazine editors throughout the monthly process to craft visually compelling content.
  • Use front-end web development skills to collaborate with the Web Content Marketer, Digital Strategy and Engagement Editor, and UI/Visual Designer.
  • Act as the primary user of the CMS for magazine content.
  • Impact Key Performance Indicators to align with brand and institutional objectives, including content volume, audience engagement, unique visitors, and time spent.
  • Execute larger-scale metadata cleanup initiatives as identified by Publications.
  • Manage and oversee visual projects of various scales, coordinating their conceptualization and editing.
  • Work closely with all other Graphics team members and inter-departmental colleagues on graphics, design, video, photo, web, and social projects.
  • Layout and adapt printed magazine content for digital platforms across all channels.
  • Collaborate with project owners and copywriters as needed to generate optimized creative content for marketing, training, and educational purposes.
  • Creates accessible PDF monthly magazine issues and remediates PDFs, to ensure documents are WCAG and PDF/UA compliant using tools such as MadeToTag and CommonLook.

Basic Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in multimedia editing, encompassing photography and motion graphics.
  • Possesses strong visual acumen, adept at art direction, and demonstrates a keen eye for employing illustration to establish an overall visual ambiance.
  • Shows a proven ability to craft compelling narratives integrating photography, motion graphics, and text.
  • Capable of collaborating effectively within a diverse team.
  • Able to adapt to changes within the fast-paced environment of short turnaround publications and marketing production.
  • Demonstrates experience and enthusiasm for working in cross-functional teams, actively participating in feedback exchange, and contributing to the team’s ethos.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest social media content trends, integrating innovative editing techniques and concepts to maintain our content's cutting-edge position in digital storytelling.
  • Cultivates a team atmosphere that fosters creativity, empowerment, and a commitment to continuous improvement within the organization.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must possess mastery of industry standard Adobe CC Design Suite applications with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel on Macintosh platform (OSX).
  • Must bring a unique, creative vision and strong editorial voice and work to identify new sources of content as well as new formats for storytelling.
  • Archives all finalized assets and ensures updates in archives by partnering with the internal asset management team. This includes supplying relevant metadata concerning asset origins and rights restrictions.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability and time management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Graphics and Multimedia preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience as Graphics and Multimedia Designer or similar role.
  • Portfolio samples required

Compliance with all company policies, including but not limited to the company’s COVID-19 vaccination policy and testing and face-covering policy, is a condition of employment. You must be able to connect to a reliable internet service to perform all job duties when working from home. Work authorization is required, and sponsorship is not available.  Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. 

The annual pay range is anticipated to be $63,000.00 – $68,000.00, depending on experience. This position is exempt.

This is a hybrid role, with some days remote and some days on-site, typically 2 per week, with expected in-office days of Tuesday and Wednesday at 9127 S. Jamaica St. Englewood, CO 80112. When working in the office, we follow CDC guidelines.
