As one of Denver’s Top 10 paid attractions and a favorite for Front Range families, the Museum is a one-of-a-kind nonprofit, educational organization located in Golden, Colorado. At its current location since 1959, it is also one of the Top 10 railroad museums in the U.S. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. In addition to owning the Museum’s daily accounting, the Senior Accountant works closely with the CFO and Executive Director, supports financial reporting and audits, and plays a critical role in supporting the Museum’s growth. Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Maintain the general ledger to ensure financial records are accurate
- Perform daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, payments and cash deposits
- Own month/year-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Account for restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and contributions
- Prepare and/or assist with filing IRS forms 990, 1096, and 1099, and sales tax receipts
- Support external audit(s), including schedules and auditor requests
- Maintain and enhance internal controls
- Support Museum leadership with annual budgeting processes and financial reporting

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (required)
- 5+ years of professional accounting experience
- Excellent general accounting skills, strong knowledge of GAAP
- Non-profit experience, including grant and restricted fund accounting is a plus
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail • Experience with Quick Books Online; Blackbaud Altru is a plus
- Advanced MS Excel skills
Work Environment
- Position requires working on-site
- Standing may occasionally be required for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds • This position operates in a busy indoor environment; crowds and moderate to very noisy sound levels are common
- Associated outdoor duties are also required for opening and closing, during special events, and for other necessary activities. These activities may involve exposure to rain and snow, extreme temperature variations, and smoke/exhaust fumes from coal burning steam locomotives and other rail and road and off-road vehicles
- Occasional morning, evening and weekend work may be required
Additional Information
- Probationary period not to exceed six months

Benefits
Position: Senior Accountant Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week; overtime exempt; early morning, evening, weekend hours as necessary Annual Salary: $75,000-$85,000 depending on experience Benefits: Paid vacation and sick leave. Full medical, dental, and vision. 401(k) plan with partial match
