The Sr. Director of Growth and Retention Marketing will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing our end-to-end customer journeys, shaping and executing our fan engagement strategy. 

This pivotal role is responsible for developing and leading the full-funnel marketing efforts, leveraging advanced data capabilities and our core marketing technology ecosystem to craft hyper-personalized, cross-channel experiences and build scalable automation processes aimed at driving acquisition, engagement, retention, and maximizing lifetime value (LTV).

The ideal candidate is passionate about cultivating an engaged and loyal fanbase from our Club’s inaugural season forward. They possess a strategic mindset, exceptional analytical skills, and a strong understanding of lifecycle marketing principles across the entire customer ecosystem, coupled with deep technical expertise to ensure data and tools effectively power our growth and retention objectives. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Ownership & Execution:

  • Develop and own the comprehensive lifecycle marketing strategy, from acquisition and onboarding to engagement, retention, and win-back, with a clear focus on driving LTV and increasing loyalty.
  • Create and lead comprehensive, full-funnel marketing strategies across email, push, SMS, in-app and web, focusing on accelerating fan acquisition and long-term engagement.
  • Develop and own a rigorous test & learn roadmap, constantly identifying opportunities for growth and new experiments across channels, customer segments, and messaging approaches.
  • Own specific revenue and engagement targets, and transparently report on results to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee accurate and timely digital content creation and delivery for the website and app, in alignment with Club objectives and priorities.
  • Ensure marketing complies with applicable regulation and industry best practices.

Fan Communication:

  • Develop and continuously refine fan journeys to ensure a seamless, engaging, and personalized experience across all touchpoints, from prospect to loyal season ticket holder.
  • Implement advanced segmentation and predictive modeling for tailored, hyper-personalized fan experiences, driving growth and retention.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on campaign performance, providing actionable insights and data-backed recommendations to optimize marketing efforts, enhance fan engagement, and directly attribute to growth, retention, and revenue KPIs.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Club’s brand identity, voice, and visuals across all touchpoints, ensuring market resonance and mission authenticity

Marketing Technology & Data:

  • Lead the strategic integrations and optimization of our core martech ecosystem to unlock the full potential of tools.
  • Architect and implement solutions to connect systems and enhance unified customer profiles for deeper segmentation and personalization
  • Seek opportunities for unlocking current tools potential and implementing new marketing technologies, AI-driven solutions, and best practices that improve campaign effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Spearhead data initiatives, socialize insights, and centralize analytics efforts across marketing.
  • Collect, visualize, and analyze data effectively, extracting meaningful and statistically confident insights that drive data-informed decision-making.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • As the Club expands, lead and mentor a high-performing Growth & Retention marketing team, promoting a culture of innovation, accountability, and fan-centric approach.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to shape overall business strategy, foster a high-performance organizational culture, and identify new avenues for growth.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align lifecycle strategies with Club’s business objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressive digital marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership position concentrating on growth and retention or lifecycle marketing. Prior experience in sports, entertainment, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing successful full-funnel marketing campaigns.
  • Extensive experience building and architecting marketing processes and tech stacks from early stages, with a deep understanding of data flow across systems.
  • Proficiency in Braze CRM platform or similar enterprise-grade B2C engagement, web analytics tools (e.g., GA4, ThoughtSpot, Tableau), and a comprehensive understanding of digital marketing best practices. 
  • Fluent in key marketing channels (email, push, in-app/in-product messaging) and their technical mechanisms (deliverability, authentication, token management, rich push).
  • Proven ability to achieve measurable results, including acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and marketing strategies.
  • Foundational understanding of HTML, CSS, and experience with content management systems (CMS).
  • Experience working with customer data platforms (CDP) or data warehouses, with SQL proficiency preferred.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range $125,000 – $145,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
