Position Summary

The Senior Manager of Internal Communications leads the development and advancement of enterprise internal communication strategies that connect team members across our mountains, offices, and communities. This role is responsible for designing and delivering clear, consistent and authentic communication channels that keep our teams informed, aligned, and inspired around what matters most.

The Senior Manager of Internal Communications serves as a strategic communications leader responsible for managing, designing and executing enterprise-wide internal communications that inform and engage a complex and diverse workforce. The role partners closely with executive leadership, destinations, and cross functional stakeholders, honoring the unique culture and needs of the varied team members across our destinations, businesses, and communities.

The role requires a creative and editorial point of view, strong writing skills, deep platform expertise, and a collaborative spirit. With an organized multi-channel strategy, thoughtful storytelling, strong partnerships across the organization, and a deep understanding of Alterra's diverse employee audience, success comes in the form of developing best practices across various communication channels, delivering appropriate information to the right audience in a timely and engaging manor, ultimately strengthening employee belonging.

The role reports to the Vice President of Communications and works closely with destination and business function Communication and People teams.

Essential Duties

General Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Communications Strategy
 

  • Lead the development and execution of a company-wide internal communications strategy that ensures team members across all locations and roles remain informed, connected, and aligned with Alterra's purpose, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Shape and continuously evolve the internal communications ecosystem, including the intranet, engagement platforms, newsletters, leadership communications, video content and storylines and internal campaigns, ensuring each channel delivers clear value and reaches team members effectively.
  • Establish communications frameworks, standards, and best practices that support consistency, clarity, and strong internal brand alignment across the organization.
     

Executive & Leadership Communications
 

  • Serve as an internal strategic communications advisor to senior leadership, helping translate complex priorities into clear, authentic messaging that resonates with team members.
  • Develop tools, governance frameworks, and communication guides that empower leaders and managers to effectively connect with their teams and cascade key information with confidence and clarity.
  • Ensure leadership communications reinforce transparency, trust, and alignment across the organization.
     

Culture & Storytelling
 

  • Bring the unique Alterra story to life with enthusiasm and creativity through compelling narratives that celebrate team member voices and achievements and the mountains in which we work and play, demonstrating to team members how their work connects to the broader mission of the company.
  • Partner across teams to spotlight initiatives, milestones, and experiences that strengthen pride and belonging throughout the organization.
     

Organizational Initiatives & Change Communications
 

  • Lead internal communications strategies, in collaboration with the Vice President of Communications, for high-impact initiatives, organizational changes, and company-wide programs, ensuring team members understand what is changing, why it matters, and how it connects to the future of the organization.
  • Partner cross-functionally to plan, anticipate risks, and deliver messaging that drives awareness, understanding, and meaningful engagement.
     

Enterprise Events & Engagement
 

  • Direct communications planning and strategic messaging for company-wide meetings, leadership forums, and other major internal events, ensuring clear objectives, and seamless delivery.
  • Lead in vendor selection, negotiating contracts and managing related partnerships.
  • Establish communication cadences and post-event follow-through that reinforce key messages and sustain momentum.
     

Additional Responsibilities
 

  • Analyze communication performance metrics and feedback to identify trends, inform strategic decisions, and continuously refine communication effectiveness.
  • Department invoicing and budget tracking.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Required Qualifications
 

  • 8-10+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related roles, with a demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-wide communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience advising varied leadership and employee teams, including developing and managing messaging and organization-wide announcements.
  • Proven experience working within complex, multi-location organizations, ideally supporting both corporate and frontline or operational workforces.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale communications for major initiatives, organizational changes, and cultural programs in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working with and developing communication platforms, standards, frameworks, and governance practices across distributed teams or multi-location organizations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience developing content across multiple formats and communication channels.
  • Experience managing internal communication platforms and tools such as intranets, newsletters, and team member engagement systems, plus analytics and reporting.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience in hospitality, outdoor recreation, lifestyle brands, or multi-site consumer-facing organizations is a plus.
  • Professional/lived experience working in a culturally competent manner with a broad range of people.
     

Education Requirements
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is a plus.
     

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $100,000 – $140,000 per year
