Position Summary
At DaVita, we find that our best leaders are those who create an inspiring vision for the future and empower their teams to achieve success. We are seeking a Director of Patient Marketing & Communications to lead the strategic vision and execution of Village-wide patient engagement.
This leader will own the end-to-end patient journey strategy for the enterprise, moving beyond isolated email campaigns to orchestrate personalized, "always-on" communications that empower patients, improve adherence, and drive clinical outcomes.
As a Director, you will serve as a strategic partner to senior business and clinical leadership, transforming patient marketing from a service function into a key growth driver for the Village. You will lead a high-performing team to design data-driven engagement roadmaps that effectively bridge the gap between clinical care and the patient’s daily life.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Village-Wide Vision (40%)
· Define the Roadmap: Define and own the multi-year strategic roadmap for patient marketing and ongoing engagement across the Village. You will shift the organizational focus from “launching campaigns” to “managing comprehensive patient journeys” that directly support DaVita’s 2030 ambitions.
· Orchestrate Engagement: Lead the design of seamless, omni-channel engagement strategies—spanning email, SMS, app, and mail—that support key care moments. You will ensure these touchpoints are integrated to tell a consistent story to the patient.
· Drive Personalization: Act as a thought leader for patient personalization. By leveraging data, behavioral science, and technology, you will transition our
approach from broad communications to precision engagement that meets patients exactly where they are in their care journey.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence (30%)
· Executive Alignment: Partner with executive leadership to ensure marketing strategies directly support Village priorities. You will serve as a marketing liaison to senior leaders in Clinical Operations, IT, Legal/Compliance, and Patient Engagement leadership, influencing decision-making by articulating how patient engagement drives business value and clinical outcomes.
· Infrastructure Development: Work seamlessly with Digital, IT, Data & Analytics, and Clinical teams to build the necessary infrastructure—including data feeds and CRM capabilities—that enables real-time, signal-based marketing.
· Change Management: Champion the shift towards a “patient-first” communications model, breaking down operational silos to ensure a consistent voice and experience for the patient across all touchpoints.
Team Leadership & Development (20%)
· Build High-Performing Teams: Manage, mentor, and develop a diverse team of strategists and marketers. You will foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning, ensuring your team is empowered to innovate.
· Operational Excellence: Oversee the department budget, resource allocation, and agency partnerships. You will ensure the team is structured effectively to deliver on high-priority initiatives without compromising quality.
· Talent Cultivation: Actively identify and cultivate talent within the team, creating succession plans and distinct opportunities for career growth within the DaVita Ladders framework.
Performance & Analytics (10%)
· Measure Impact: Establish robust KPIs and measurement frameworks to prove the ROI of patient engagement efforts.
· Executive Reporting: Regularly present performance insights, strategic pivots, and future opportunities to VP and C-suite leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment on results.
Qualifications
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or related Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Experience:
· 10+ years of experience in marketing strategy, lifecycle marketing, or patient engagement.
· 5+ years of leadership experience, with a proven track record of managing teams and developing talent.
· Significant experience working in a matrixed, enterprise-level environment (healthcare experience preferred).
Key Competencies:
· Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the “big picture” and connect marketing tactics to broader organizational goals.
· Complexity Management: Skilled at navigating ambiguity and managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with significant financial or operational impact.
· Influence: Demonstrated ability to persuade and align senior leaders without direct authority.
· Emotional Intelligence: Builds strong, trust-based relationships across the Village; models DaVita’s Core Values.
What You Can Expect (The “Village” Difference)
· A “community first, company second” culture based on Core Values that really matter.
· Award-winning education and training through DaVita University and Leadership programs.
· A comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance your health, financial well-being, and future.
