Location 

In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver International Airport 5 days days per week. Typical workdays are Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.  There may be occasions where work outside these hours is required.  There is flexibility for occasional work from home.  Additionally, this position may need to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours.

This position will be responsible for the strategic planning, asset management and operations and maintenance of strategically important systems at the Denver International Airport.  Among these are:

The Automated Guideway Transit System (AGTS)

The AGTS is the automated people mover that transports people between the terminal building and the concourses.  The system consists of 41 Alstom train cars, the guideway, controls, power distribution, and a maintenance facility.  The system is the only means of transportation between the terminal and Concourses B and C.  Uptime of the system is critical for the operation of the airport.  The system is operated and maintained by Alstom.

The Baggage Handling System (BHS)

The BHS includes traditional conveyor systems, an Individual Carrier System (ICS), and baggage lifts for oversize bags.  This system is the primary means of transport for all inbound and outbound bags at the airport.  DEN handles approximately 2 million bags per month.  The system is operated and maintained by multiple contractors.  Additionally, there are several capital improvement projects being conducted at this time.

Conveyances

Conveyances consist of elevators, escalators and moving walkways.  This program contains over 300 conveyances which are maintained by Thyssen Krupp.

This is a new position at the airport and this candidate will be responsible to build and lead a team that will oversee the Operations and Maintenance contracts for these systems.

This position will be responsible for ensuring that all contractual requirements are met or exceeded and that the airports provides excellent service to our customers.

This position will be responsible for master planning of these systems to ensure that we are investing properly for our growth and reliability while considering asset life cycle, key performance indicators and metrics, and predictive analytics.

This position will work closely with our capital project delivery team to ensure that capital projects are being delivered according to scope.

This position will work closely with Finance, Airport Operations, Airport Maintenance, Airport Asset Management and Senior Leadership to ensure alignment with the operation of these systems.  This position will also be responsible for interacting with internal and external stakeholders to communicate key performance indicators, report on goals, and solve operational problems.

We are looking for someone with some or all the following skills and experience: ​

  • Experience with managing large and complex operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts with a focus on technical systems.  This position will be responsible for the operation of all conveyances (elevators, escalators and moving walkways), the Automated People mover (APM) which transports people between the concourses and terminal, and the baggage handling system (BHS).

  • This person should have experience with an Asset Management Program and understand Total Cost of Ownership, Likelihood of Failure, Consequence of Failure, Condition Assessments, etc.

  • Understanding of controls for complex mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Leading teams in a matrixed organization to include business partners.  This person should show demonstrated ability to lead people with a servant’s heart.  This person should also put a high value on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

  • Experienced in writing and administering Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

  • Understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) for complex mechanical and electrical systems.  The ideal candidate should have experience in reporting of performance.

  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to engage stakeholders.  Stakeholders include but are not limited to airlines, federal regulatory partners, internal stakeholders, and customers.

  • Familiarity with airport capital improvement programs (CIP) and experience in planning for capital investment at an airport or other large facility.

  • Understanding of airport operations and maintenance and an understanding of how these systems affect the operation of the airport.

  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to implement innovation.  This includes process improvement and technology.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to the specific functional or operational area.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of management level work experience which must have included managing professional level staff specific to the functional or operational area in the field of study.

One (1) year of management experience must include budget and fiscal oversight responsibility, evaluation of business processes, and policy and decision-making experience with planning and organizing multiple programs, projects, operations, or functions.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application.
