Nature of Work:
The Communications/Media Relations Internship provides an opportunity to learn and assist with the day-to-day operations of the Colorado Avalanche Media Relations department, as well as work with the hockey operations staff. This internship position will specifically focus on the topic of media relations and operations and team operations.
Examples of work performed:
- Assists in the daily production and distribution of the press clippings and gathering all Colorado Avalanche/NHL stories from local, national and international news services.
- Assists in the distribution of the Colorado Avalanche media/photo credentials for all development camp practices.
- Produce Draft Guide, Development Camp Guide, Media Guide and other department guides.
- Proof department documents before its dissemination to team personnel and local/national media.
- Assists in day-to-day content of the Avalanche’s official website, including writing event previews and feature stories.
- Helps with coordination of press conferences and team events.
- Provides general support for the hockey operations staff, including executives, coaches and scouts.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Minimum
- High School or GED
- 2+ years’ experience in field
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Preferred
- Certification or additional degree
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work with deadlines in a fast-paced environment with media, players, coaches and multiple departments.
- Foundational knowledge of the National Hockey League and its personnel.
- Good working knowledge of the Adobe Suite (InDesign), word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
- Familiarity with hockey statistical websites such as NHL.com, hockey-reference, hockeydb, etc.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to team goals.
- Strong professional presence.
- Detail-oriented.
- Accountability.
- Ability to work independently.
- Extensive knowledge of all Microsoft Windows programs.
- All Colorado Interns are required to attend all KSE Internship Program hosted events that occur during business hours. If unable to attend due to work, school or unforeseen circumstance, the Intern must inform the Internship Program Committee via the RSVP form provided via email..
- All Interns are required to participate in the KSE Mentorship Program by meeting with assigned Mentor in person or virtually at least for the initial meet-up.
Compensation
- Base hourly range $18.81 per hour
