AΩA is looking for an experienced communications professional who combines strong writing and digital communication skills with creativity, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in connecting people to a meaningful mission.

Description

Meaningful work. National reach. A small team where your contribution matters.
For more than 124 years, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA) has recognized physicians, scientists, and medical students who demonstrate excellence, leadership, professionalism, scholarship, and service. Founded in 1902, AΩA is the nation’s oldest medical honor society, with more than 200,000 members and 140 medical school chapters across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Lebanon. Selection to AΩA is considered one of the highest honors in academic medicine.

Our National Office is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. We are a small, collaborative team supporting physicians, medical students, researchers, educators, and leaders throughout the medical profession.

AΩA is committed to creating a workplace where talented people from different backgrounds can thrive. We believe diverse perspectives strengthen patient care, education, research, scientific discovery, and the profession of medicine.

About the Role
AΩA is looking for an experienced communications professional who combines strong writing and digital communication skills with creativity, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in connecting people to a meaningful mission.

As Communications & Engagement Manager, you will have a visible role in how AΩA communicates with its members and the broader medical community. You will help shape and execute communications that strengthen member relationships, increase participation, recognize achievement, and support philanthropic engagement.

This is a role for someone who enjoys both strategy and execution. You may be developing a member engagement campaign one day and writing a newsletter, recognizing a member achievement on social media, analyzing campaign performance, or improving website content the next. Because we are a small organization, good ideas can move quickly, and your work will have a direct and measurable impact.

This is an in-office position based on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, reporting to the Operations Director.

What You’ll Do
You will take an active role in AΩA’s communications and member engagement efforts, including:

  • Partnering with vendors and staff to execute integrated campaigns that increase member engagement, participation, and philanthropic support
  • Developing electronic and print communications for annual dues and contribution campaigns
  • Creating thoughtful communications that thank donors and recognize new lifetime members
  • Maintaining and updating the AΩA website and database, including The Pharos, Program and Chapter pages in coordination with other staff
  • Writing, producing, and distributing AΩA’s bi-monthly member newsletter through Constant Contact
  • Expanding and strengthening AΩA’s presence on LinkedIn and Instagram while identifying emerging trends and best practices that can improve digital engagement
  • Recognizing member accomplishments through social media, newsletters, the website, and other appropriate channels
  • Helping develop marketing and engagement strategies that strengthen members’ connection to AΩA and inspire participation in its mission
  • Working with The Phraos & Programs staff to communicate submission outcomes for national awards and contests, including Student Essay, Student Poetry, and AΩA Stories
  • Using engagement and campaign data to understand what works and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Providing occasional support for local events, including infrequent work outside standard business hours and limited travel

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of their work while also enjoying the collaboration of a small team. The strongest candidate will be an excellent communicator who is organized, comfortable with technology, curious about new approaches, and able to move comfortably between strategic thinking and day-to-day execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, digital marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • 3–6 years of professional experience in communications, digital marketing, fundraising, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative, Salesforce, Monday.com, Zoom, Constant Contact, and other workplace technologies
  • Experience with social media management and email marketing platforms
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively

Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following:

  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, academic medicine, higher education, or professional associations
  • Experience in donor engagement, member relations, fundraising, or membership organizations
  • The interpersonal skills to bring warmth, professionalism, and connection to interactions with members and the AΩA community
  • Experience analyzing campaign performance and using data to improve communications and digital marketing
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity tools and project management platforms, including thoughtful use of technology to improve communications workflows while maintaining accuracy, quality, and organizational standards
  • A strong service orientation and genuine interest in helping colleagues and members succeed
  • Curiosity, creativity, and an interest in continually improving how an organization communicates

What Will Help You Succeed at AΩA
Our team works best with people who take their responsibilities seriously without taking themselves too seriously. We value colleagues who communicate openly, follow through on commitments, help one another, and look for better ways to accomplish our work.
You will thrive here if you:

  • Take ownership of your work and your contribution to the team
  • Adapt comfortably when priorities change
  • Stay organized and maintain high standards without losing sight of deadlines
  • Build productive, positive relationships with colleagues, members, vendors, and partners
  • Bring creativity and fresh thinking while respecting the history and reputation of a 124-year-old organization
  • Use data and analytical thinking to improve communications and engagement
  • Can translate complex information into clear, engaging communication across multiple platforms
  • Recognize when to work independently and when collaboration will produce a better result

Why AΩA?
This is an opportunity to do meaningful communications work without getting lost in a large organization.
AΩA combines the reach and reputation of a national organization with the working environment of a small team. Your ideas will be heard, your work will be visible, and you will have opportunities to contribute beyond a narrowly defined communications role.
Our mission is to support and encourage leaders in medicine, academia, and the community while advancing humanism, scholarship, professionalism, and service to others.
We offer:

  • Meaningful work connected to medicine, education, leadership, and service
  • A collaborative environment where individual contributions matter
  • The opportunity to take ownership of projects and see them through from idea to implementation
  • Opportunities to broaden your skills and contribute to initiatives across the organization
  • Health stipend; dental and vision insurance
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution
  • Generous paid time off policy
  • On-campus parking
