Description

The Vice President of Marketing and PR provides strategic leadership for the organization’s marketing, advertising, creative, public relations, communications, and social/digital efforts. This role is responsible for shaping and executing comprehensive brand strategy and marketing plans for the Vail Valley Foundation (VVF) and its affiliated programs and initiatives, including Youth Power, the Eagle River Childcare Initiative, Birds of Prey, Mountain Games, Vail Dance Festival, Hot Summer Nights, ShowDown Town, The Amp, The Vilar, and VVF’s $72 million Empowering Possibility Capital Campaign, as well as any future projects the organization may develop or acquire.

The Vice President of Marketing and PR oversees critical messaging and outreach to donors, ticket buyers, participants, and volunteers, and plays a key role in positioning VVF as a visionary leader while supporting revenue generation and driving attendance and participation across programs and events. This position works closely with the Chair of the Marketing and Communications Committee and reports directly to the President & CEO.

In addition to serving as a key member of the VVF executive team, the Vice President of Marketing and PR will lead and mentor a team of five marketing and PR professionals and engage independent contractors and creative agencies as needed to support marketing initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities:

•Drive strategic planning, including creation of marketing plans annually for overall VVF as well as for each event, program, venue, and project. Lead proactive visioning of marketing opportunities and positioning.

•Lead both annual and long-term strategic planning for all ongoing marketing and PR efforts across the organization.

•Actively participate not only as the leader of the team, but as a working member of the team, providing a valuable skill set to assist in reaching all marketing objectives.

•Develop working relationships with other department heads to meet annual marketing needs, including the setting of goals, timetables, and budgets.

•Establish tangible business objectives, allocate and align resources to achieve objectives, monitor results, and prepare conclusions and recommendations.

•Oversee the building and maintenance of all VVF’s digital marketing assets, including websites, social media channels, mapping technologies and software packages (including ticketing, registration, and fundraising platforms).

•Lead and manage the annual video production needs across the organization. Most videos that VVF produces each year are done in partnership with an independent contractor or creative agency.

•Negotiate and manage year-round media contracts on behalf of the team.

•Lead and manage the media services obligations tied to VVF’s three major event projects which include Birds of Prey, Mountain Games, and Vail Dance Festival.

•The Vice President of Marketing and PR is responsible for the annual budget process for the department and on an ongoing basis during each fiscal year monthly, and quarterly forecasting engagement and reconciliation with the Finance department.

•As desired or needed secure marketing agency subcontractors. Contract all marketing vendors and agencies and ensure deliverables are met. Review all contracts for performance and efficacy at the end of each contracted term or annually at a minimum

•Attend and participate in relevant community meetings and / or committees. Serve as an active and engaged member in our local community.

•Lead the Board Marketing and Communications Committee, working closely with the VVF President & CEO and Committee Chair on meeting agendas and goals.

•From time to time the VVF or other area(s) of the VVF will engage in a brand revisioning process. The Vice President of Marketing and PR will lead the re-branding and visioning process and make recommendations to the VVF President, Marketing and Communications Committee, and Board Executive Committee.

•Seek out and grow community relations and partnerships with local brands that can maximize VVF’s reach for its venues, programs, and projects.

•Maximize VVF’s reach by partnering with VVF Corporate Sponsors that can multiply our brand exposure domestically and internationally.

•Develop dynamic ticketing, and where appropriate, athlete registration pricing strategies, to support the achievement of revenue targets for ticket sales across multiple VVF projects and venues.

•Ad hoc projects as assigned.

•The organization is currently exploring a technology (digital) road map to modernize our business. We anticipate this road map to cost several million dollars and take two to three years to complete. Although the road map will primarily be managed by our IT leadership and outside IT consultant(s), the Vice President of Marketing and PR will play a key supporting role with this important initiative.

Qualifications & Experience:

A successful candidate should possess:

•Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

•A minimum of 15 years of marketing and PR experience with at least 10 years in a leadership position.

•Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.

•Exceptional track record of developing and implementing marketing and PR strategies that have met or exceeded planned objectives, providing personal leadership through example.

•Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and board members to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.

•A proven leader that is both a worker and a mentor capable of juggling multiple responsibilities, meeting deadlines, while still ensuring the members of their team are getting the support and guidance they need.

•Strategic planning and data analysis skills in marketing and business strategy, proven and effective project management.

•A proficient understanding of the most recent marketing and PR best practices and consumer and business trends.

•A professional who has experience with using technology or technology advancements to improve staff and organizational efficiency.

•An ability to find the right balance between traditional marketing methods and a strong background and knowledge of newer marketing vehicles that the VVF requires to ensure that all our constituents and stakeholders are reached.

•Willingness to work on all projects and events no matter the scope.

•Excellent oral and written communication skills.

•Exceptional time management and prioritization skills.

This is a salaried/hourly, full-time year-round position eligible for all VVF employment benefits.

Annual Salary Range: $150,000 to $190,000.

In-person position required to be performed on-site at VVF’s office in Avon, CO., with required travel to other office locations and event venues as needed.
