What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $65,523 – $97,466. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver Post Building (101 W. Colfax Denver, CO 80201) on your in-office days.

What You’ll Do

The Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team!

The individual in this position will be a key support role to the mission of the department. DPR is dedicated to customer service and enhancing the health of residents and the environment through innovative programs and safe, beautiful and sustainable places.  DPR employees are devoted to positively impacting our diverse population, including children, youth, adults, seniors and adaptive participants.

Specifically, as a Senior Accountant, you will:

  • Apply the City’s Fiscal Accountability Rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures to reconcile discrepancies and ensures compliance with fiscal accountability in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Perform routine and basic reconciliations of point-of-sale system identifying discrepancies and make corrections in the City’s financial system

  • Register, transfer, and dispose of assets in the system of record, and assist with the annual physical inventory

  • Analyze revenue reports as reported by concessionaires to assure accurate payments due and correct payment received

  • Generate financial statements and reports for the department

  • Research funding sources for potential errors and prepare and submit correcting General Ledger entries

  • Manage the financial component of all department grants

  • Assist with the annual budget process

  • Educate field staff through training on understanding the City’s Fiscal Accountability Rules, financial reports, processes, and more

  • Provide excellent customer service for both internal and external customers

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Documented experience in various accounting functions including analyzing revenues and expenditures

  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles

  • Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills

  • Experience with Workday is a plus, but not required

  • Demonstrated experience establishing consistent standards and processes

  • Understanding of Federal, State, and Local government legal requirements

  • Excellent business ethical conduct and the ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Strong customer service skills

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
